Then you were unlucky. But I will admit that in Europe, beams on the
uplink and downlink are essential to beat all the 2m QRM. There are plenty
of places in the footprint of sats over Europe that hear illegal stations
on the top end of 2m. AO-51 was recently in FM mode with NO ctcss
requirement and the reports were that the QRM was coming from the Middle
East and Russia.
The idea that a 2m up to 10m down sat would be useful, Hmmm it would be
hit by the same QRM that hits the FM sats. Oh and the same QRM hits
FO-29's analogue transponder.
The world has moved on a lot from the RS and early Oscar series of sats.
For the worse, with lots of illegal 2m use. Hence another requirement to
go onwards on upwards.
SSETI due for launch later this year is another FM sat (well its actually
a scientific sat for 2 months, then we get to use it) S band down, 70 cms
up.
Not 2m ! S-band (2.4GHz) is not ideal for me, as least not in a polar
orbit sat, but I will make the most of it.
How many ACTIVE sat users have responded to your bull? That may give you a
TRUE'er picture of what frequencies are used.
