Larry Kayser, VA3LK, passed away suddenly on October 5, 2004.
Larry conducted the first transatlantic QSO on 137 Khz. Amoung his satellite activities, Larry built a tape system in his basement, and ran almost a MILE of audio tape in that basement to automatically command a misbehaving OSCAR on every orbit in order to keep the satellite operating. Later, it was Larry's work on batteries that eventually resulted in a set of NiCd cells being selected for UO-11's battery which continues to function now having been in space for over 20 years and 110443 orbits.
[ANS thanks Bob, N4HY for the above information]
