I've always wanted a Jamsat/Amsat/TAPR Trakbox. They are hard to find nowadays
and are outdated by newer PC software. However I feel they still have their
usefulness as a compact stand alone tracker. I asked Jamsat if the could contact
the Authors to see if they would be willing to publish there source code for
the Trakbox with a GPL License so other hams could make use of it. They initially
said they could not as they did not know how to reach the Author(s). I Looking over
Jamsat archives on the web I found the Author was Dr. Sueo Asato JA6FTL. I asked
OM Mineo Wakita JE9PEL if he could find more info about Dr. Asato and ask him
if he could publish the software. In the meantime I began a project to start
a TrakBox Emulator running on an ARM Device that would emulate the 8051
cpu and all the hardware. I was just getting started when I received an email
from JA6FTL with all of the original Source Code. I have started a project
to modify/utilize this code for a new Program that runs like the old trakbox
on an ARM Dev kit I had lying around. Once I get this finished I will make
the code more portable possibly to Arduino devices etc. This would allow
other Hams to build a Trakbox on their own. The works will be published on
Github at the following url: https://github.com/pfiliberti/trakbox_due
