Hello All,

The following posting have been taken from one of my web sites
and I now am posting this information on here so to help others
out with there windows boxs.
I know that there are diffrent OS systems with in windows such
as win Xp however since there are still a lot of persons staying
with Windows 98SE in it support od Dos as well here is some
support for you with you window 98SE basied box.

Brief Description in Error relating to MSCOMM.VBX out-of-date
in Windows 95 or 98SE in some ham programslike the Yaesu Cat
controller the RS232 !.

This error could come up after installing some program on your
computer which the main one that this can affect is the scanner
program for winlink that use the Yaesu Cat controller the RS232.
I have done this myself and I'm still attempting to figure out
exactly *why* this happens, but basically it happend when I installed
UI-View on a windows 95 system it also happend on a Windows 98SE
machine.
In when I boot up the cat scanner program I got the message that
" MSCOMM.VBX out-of-date " on looking on the MSCOMM.VBX in the
C:\WINDOWS \SYSTEM directory every thing looked normal.

How ever the size of the file in the MSCOMM.VBX in the C:\WINDOWS
\SYSTEM directory was 34.0 kb now what was the size before this
error happened?... I have no idear.

How ever on finding the follow web site concerning this problem
known as " Vault Information Services "
the web site :http://www.vaultbbs.com/sim8052/kb.phtml?kb=1021
" and on downloading and unzipping the file called [ s52v3604.zip
] into a temp directory you will see a MSCOMM.VBX file of 33.5 KB.

Before you even try to copy this file into the C:\WINDOWS \SYSTEM
directory first GO into your own C:\WINDOWS \SYSTEM directory
and find the original " MSCOMM.VBX " file and make a back up of
it first and put this into its own temp directory and call it
backup files should any thing go wrong you still have the original.

Go into your C:\WINDOWS \SYSTEM directory, overwriting whatever
MSCOMM.VBX file you have installed there also make sure that you
don't have additional copies of MSCOMM.VBX anywhere else in your
C:\WINDOWS \SYSTEM directory

You may have to close down windows and re boot windows 95 back
up so as to have to copy the MSCOMM.VBX into the C:\WINDOWS \SYSTEM
after which close down windows and re boot and if every thing
being correct all should work.

Now try your Yaesu Cat controller the RS232 and all being well
your back in Business again .
