Hi Lodewijk and all,

Forget about the Windows sound recorder, it's crap. You would be much 
better off with a proper sound file editor, several freeware versions are 
available for download on the Internet. Although not freeware I have 
found Adobe Audition to be about the best, it will do just about anything 
you could ever want to do with digital sound recording and editing. Oh, 
I'm not a minority of one, it's commonly used by professionals and BTW I 
have seen the graphic display shown on monitors in many TV programs as 
special effects. Saying that you just may think it's a pretty popular 
program. (;->)
