Hi Anthony and readers,

I changed the subject because this no longer has anything to do with cell
phones.

The trouble with many countries is the authorities view Amateur Radio as
merely a hobby which grants few if any rights and priveleges. In the US
it is viewed as a public service and classed as a radio service, it's a
matter of legal definition. That's why US operators engoy the rights and
priveliges of public servants, we ARE public servants.

As I have said several times before, it's time (really past time) that
governments should be made well aware of the public service Amateur Radio
provides, particularly but not limited to times of emergency. We provide
all sorts of services from everyday message handling (I see it on packet
all the time and on the other nets) to communications backup for all
sorts of public agencies including police whenever and wherever needed.
It happens all the time everywhere in the world so it's about time we're
officially recognized in more places than the US.

It may be a long, hard road but officials can be made aware, especially
through clubs and organizations so familiar with it all. It wouldn't hurt
to get them interested in Amateur Radio so they gain first hand knowledge
and experience, many of our high power politicians were and are
Hams. That's one MAJOR plus, a government official being a Ham can speak
to the others from a base of knowledge, and as we all know knowledge is
power, the power to presuade in this case. There is no point in a dummy
speaking to other dummies, at least one has to know what he's talking
about. The longest journey begins with just one step, but you have to
take that step or you're going nowhere.
