Note: I'm going to have to try to reconstruct all of
my comments, as I had a duplicate file name, and erased
that file, which had my comments. H.A.M. -- Haven't Any
Memory strikes again.
As of October, 2026, my "imaginary ham radio YL", named
"Annette" (a net) will be "doing each other every night"
(hi hi), as I'll be doing nets nightly. A full update is
on my QRZ bio. I'm not sure whether I'm a glutton for
punishment, bored, or what (hi hi). But, since each night
is a different topic, it keeps my mind fresh, and helps
keep dementia at bay; although I have a scrolling name
tag to remind me of the day of the week, and what nets
I'm to run that evening.
It would be funny if I could get into a relationship
with a ham radio YL named Annette, who was as enthusiastic
in the hobby as me (hi hi).
At least I can crash during most afternoons, except
for Saturday, when a new net will start next month.
High fire danger remains statewide, but some areas of storms
have lowered burn bans in a few areas. Unfortunately, that
may not last. Ryan Hall, KJ4WHM, has "greatly increased his
confidence" in my part of the country (Arkansas) getting "a
significant snow or ice storm this winter". Much of Arkansas
would need from 12 to 18 inches of rain over the next 30 days
to end the drought, but all that rain at once would cause other
problems. The fires are getting more frequent and concerning,
to say the least.
I got a good report from the urologist last week (PSA at 0.82),
so the next medical deals are a nuclear stress test, and an
echocardiogram on Oct. 26. Bob (NY) will take the net for me
that night. Then, November has my full physical, flu shot, and
pre-diabetic foot check and toenail trim...and that should take
care of all my medical stuff for the year.

Don't wear yourself out with all those nets! Take at least one
day off.
One of the weather channels I was watching the other day was
saying that because of this years El Nino that Northern Arkansas,
Southern Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia were all
going to have an extra special winter this year!
It's cooled down here. Today was high 50s, and with the overcast,
it felt even cooler.
I get my flu shot in October normally, so soon.
Didn't get Hamword today. My brain wasn't into it I guess.

Bob, the topics are different each night, so that will keep my brain
active. For now, the 1st Thursday will be no nets to run, due to a
local area ham radio club meeting, and Tuesday (except for the 2nd
Tuesday) will be no nets to run.
I hope it's more snow than ice or tornadoes. I'll get my flu shot in
November...with a bunch of medical apps on the smartphone, I have
fun recording all the data, but it beats printing a 30 page medical
list, wasting all that ink and paper.
I never got into HAMWORD, as I'm just not that good with word games,
although I'm playing a Bible related one on my smartphone...yet many
of the words I've never heard of. You're given the available letters,
and how many letters per word, and you have to fill in the blanks.

It's been several weeks since I have attended, just nothing exciting
to report on.
Fall is starting out really nice, no smoke all month, current temp
is 90F and it's getting colder at night. We started out this morning
at 48F. Starting to get snow up at the higher repeater sites.
I haven't done much radio play due to lousy propagation. It would have
been nice to pick up some of the meshcore units and play, but I got
vetoed... had to get new hearing aids this spring. $$$ and I'll have
to pay those off before I can dabble in other ham projects.
This week, I am having the winter tire put on the car, as we have some
traveling to do first week on October, and have to be prepared for
snow in the high mountain passes.

Rick, even just a quick stop by to let us know you're still on this
side of the grass, is helpful.
Fine business on the cooler weather, but bummer on the bad propagation,
and the cost for the hearing aids. My main issue has been ear wax, but
I need to take the free hearing test that AARP offers. I'll have to set
up a payment plan for the 2 cardiac procedures in October, for what my
HMO doesn't cover.

I have been checking into the local NTS net every evening, and even
heard from a friend in WA that he got the message I sent around a week
ago ... so I guess it actually works (hi hi).
I totally forgot about HAMWORD today. I will have to think up a good
first guess and get started on it for this week.
I got one of those OPENSPOT4 things and at least got it working on
D-Star; I had a bit of a QSO with someone in Ireland on REF001. I
wanted the OPENSPOT because it will transcode between pretty much all
of the digital modes. I had trouble setting up DMR though, there seems
to be something wrong with my Brandmeister account. Maybe just been too long since I applied for the ID.
Anyway, trying to contact the Brandmeister gods, but no luck so far.
Also, been trying to see if I can get VARA HF working for Winlink, but
no luck with that so far; not sure I really have the radio setup right
yet.
Getting a bit cooler around here. It is still too hot in the afternoon,
but it is starting to be nice sitting on the porch in the early morning.

Carl, FB on the NTS traffic nets. That's one thing I'd like to learn,
but with all the nets I'll be doing now, I may not have time for doing that.
My OpenSpot 4 Pro has been ornery lately, so I've been using the M1KE
instead. I also am setting up the QSO One Android App. I check RMS
Express for my Winlink messages, which Endaf sends his early checkin
each week.

Did not know about Brandmeister reassigning DMR #s. Definite a process
to get id # and to add a device
FB about good med reports. Important to keep up with all that. Gotta stay
healthy for Annette
Carl the VARA hf works well. You might ask AI about setup for your
particular installation. Some false info out there but have luck
sometimes with mostly accurate
Speaking of AI Google AI has some incorrect info re rig now programming
zBitx v1. Slick little 5 watt 80-10 meter with built in FT8 and on screen
cw decoder, etc. From Huntsville hamfest
Re equinox Google said more likelihood of aurora events during or near
equinox. Several years ago northern lights were visible from southern
Missouri and we were in northern Georgia that week so missed it.
Rick wonder if you all use studded snow tires in Canada?

Charley, the pleasure was mine to meet you at Huntsville. An erratic
driver sideswiped the bus outside of Memphis, and we were stuck on
the shoulder for 90 minutes, waiting for law enforcement. A couple
of Hispanics (likely illegal aliens) tried faking neck and back
injuries, but one other passenger was right where the incident
occurred, and he never felt it. You can't get a decent travel mode
anymore, not with all the loonies out there.
I forget the exact specifics, but if you don't use your DMR or TGIF
ID within a years time, it may be reassigned, although they will
email you to see if you still need it.
If "Annette" is a nurse ham, she gets to call the shots, and select
the gage (hi hi).
As for Google, their definition of "ladder line" was 2 portable
ladders hanging from a clothesline (seriously!!).
We've had some aurora in Arkansas, but I haven't seen notice of a CME
this week.
