Fifty-seven years ago today, the Apollo 11
astronauts walked on the moon. Last Tuesday,
I did a splashdown with King Klutz, as I
tripped over the corner of a foot stool in
the living room in a "gravity check". I fell,
hitting my head on a desk and chair, and was
slammed to my knees. It was agony to get back
up (my fall alert device was on the charger);
and when I got to the bathroom, I noticed
abrasions on my knees, forehead, and nose,
which was all bloodied.
So, I got my things together, and called the
ambulance. All the local Emergency Rooms were
packed, but since I had sustained head trauma,
they rushed me through. But, to add "insult to
injury", I lost my grip on the cellphone, and
it fell to the porch, shattering the screen,
rendering it unusable. I thought for sure I
would cut my finger on the glass (think of
getting a paper cut), with the liquid running
into the phone, ruining it.
I was lucky to be able to format it, and I
shipped it off for repairs. So, I have been
without a cellphone for a week, and it may
be next week before I can get it back. But,
if they can't fix it, they'll either provide
a replacement, or I will have to order a new
one, and that has to wait until August. In
the interim, no phone calls, SMS messages,
or 2FA for websites, for at least another
week, if not longer. I sure hope that I don't
have any emergency situations to deal with.
I ordered a new trains related name badge,
and new address labels with a diesel engine
on it; both are in my Post Office Box, but I
can't get the mail until Wednesday, when I
will mail off the next batch of QSL Cards.
The train badge will go well with my outfit,
and the address labels will be for mailing,
and filling out the hamfest prize tickets.
Now, if I could just have the money to buy
a bunch of them (hi hi).
I did a license exam session this past Saturday
at the University Of Arkansas At Little Rock.
We had 1 examinee, who earned his Technician
license. But, the exam session somehow didn't
get on the calendar, and we almost couldn't get
into the building. Thankfully, we were able to
get in to do the session.
It's just over 2 weeks until the Shreveport
hamfest, and just over 4 weeks until the
Huntsville hamfest. I'm really looking forward
to these hamfests, to get away for a few days.
We're under Extreme Heat Warnings...Little Rock
hit 100 degrees for the first time in 2 years,
and we'll be above that on Tuesday. As long as
I can keep on the cool side of the door (with
power and air conditioning, I'll be happy. At
least what may soon be Tropical Storm Bertha,
will stay to our south...but south Texas does
not need any more rain. At least our air quality
is moderate, as all the smoke from the wildfires
in Canada is to our north.

An uneventful week. Sorry to hear about your fall.
But doing without a phone for a couple weeks in
these days is primitive living! hihi
Last Wednesday, we had heavy Canadian smoke. Orange
sky and the smell of burning wood. It was pretty bad.
But today was downright pleasant. Low humidity, mid
70s - transplanted some flowers and cleaned out the
garage. It was a good day!
Got my Motorola XTS1500 P25 radio over the weekend.
It's all programmed now with a variety of P25 talk
groups. I'll see if I can checkin to your net later
on Quadnet with it.

Bob, first, it's primitive living, but at least I
still have indoor plumbing (hi hi).
Our air quality is moderate, but a good rain will
help clean it out. There have been scattered storms
about, but no widespread rain.
I'll start early checkins for the Puns Net around
9:30pm Eastern Time, but that may be past your
bedtime (hi hi). It is so hard to schedule a net
or anything else nowadays, as someone, somewhere,
is going to miss it.

Evening all.. Daryl glad you're ok... You should buy
a prepaid Cell phone as a just in case solution.
Our weather has been terrible, smoke, extremely bad
air quality, T-storms and finally good air (not the
air from China hi hi). Asthma wasn't happy until
today.
As I wrote in a Groups.io I got my VHF antenna
partially up (outside, but not over the peak of
house). I'm able to hit one other node who runs
and announces proudly FlexNet... meanwhile it
had no route to NS2B-11.... thus back to AXIP....
Someone (not me) needs to write a program similar
to those routing programs that make IP and DNS
work seamlessly.
Otherwise, all is quiet....
I'll be a 1-rounder tonight.. so enjoy the week,
and Daryl stay safe (as well as everyone else)...

Gee, OUCH, Daryl. I hope you have a quick recovery.
I am finally walking with a cane after my fall a
bit over a month ago. I have relegated the walker
to service in the shower as a portable grab bar
set. Otherwise, I am finally getting back to
"normal" day to day stuff.
Weather wise, we are well into our "monsoon" season.
We have been having a bit of rain most of the last
several days, along with a dust storm or two. Of
course, being classified as "semi-desert", our
"rainy" season is not all that much water, but the
lawn does seem to like it.
I finally got my "zerowriter" that I had been waiting
for ... a crowd-sourced e-ink tablet like thing made
for distraction free writing. Smallish screen, but I
think it will be useful.
Not much else going on here. I still play HAMWORD most
weeks. I need to get a bit more energetic and take the
portable out to one of the local peaks and see what I
can do.

Daryl, so sorry to hear about your fall and phone
troubles. Your description of your bad luck reminded
me of the Li'l Abner cartoon character who always
had a dark rain cloud over his head: Hoe Btfsplk!
I may be the only guy here old enough to remember
that cartoon strip!
This coming Saturday will be our central OK hamfest.
It's in a different venue this year, and will have a
much larger flea market area. Plus it's only a few
miles from home!
We are suffering with a heat advisory here in central
OK as well. Listened to the ham radio workbench podcast
and one of the regulars, Mark, in SoCal was talking
about "sunny... and 72". Made me groan...

Daisy Mae...but not much else.
I was at Ham Holiday several years ago...met Tim Duffy,
K3LR, and Bob Heil, K9EID. Had a great time.
They are saying the "super El Nino" could bring an
active fall severe weather season here, plus more ice
and snow this winter...I hope not on both counts.
