N5VLZ:
I wondered why the data stopped...it turns
out I got disconnected!!
The heat continues here, but it looks like
we might get storms and slightly cooler
weather at the end of the week. Both heat
advisories and extreme heat warnings have
been the rule. A rogue thunderstorm formed
practically right on top of the QTH, and
if it hadn't been for my lightning alerter,
I might have lost all my electronic gear.
I did a bunch of work yesterday to prepare
and release three sets of a square dancing
related publication...that's out of my hair
for a few weeks. I have to finish the data
for the QCWA Nets Summary, and I'll have
that done by Wednesday. Then, the next task
is doing the audio transcript for the QCWA
Journal. Then, that's out of my hair for
another month.
I'm set to do a license exam session this
Saturday, and while I have plenty of VE's,
I've only got one examinee so far (he wants
to go for the Technician and General...not
sure if we can get him to go for the
trifecta or not)...so, we're hoping for
walk-ins.
I'm finally getting the BBS set to come back
up, but I'm in the final testing mode of the
doors (several are apparently glitched). It
has been down for nearly 8 months, and I've
missed the games and other stuff with it.
As for the BBS computer, I got D-Rats working
again on its new setup on W11, thanks to help
Dave Perussel (not sure of his ham radio call
offhand). The lethargic W10 system will be
redone with Linux Mint Cinammon. When I think
of mint, I think of Girl Scout cookies, and
cinnamon toast I had on a regular basis when
I was younger.
Speaking of food, I'm down to 1 loaf of bread,
and I'm going to be on the PB&J diet through
August. Funds are tighter than a frog's butt
underwater, so I'm risking food burnout. But,
I'm looking forward to the Shreveport hamfest
next weekend. I may have to skip the Mena
hamfest, due to cost with the removal of the
fungus under the house. Does anyone have a
tax-free winning lottery ticket they'd like
to donate to a worthy cause (me)?? (hi hi).
Speaking of lotteries, I think of the joke
where the OM asks his XYL what she'd do if
he won the lottery. She said "I would take
half of it, then leave you". He replied,
"Well, I won $12. Here's your $6. Keep in
touch!!" (hi hi).
GE Bob (OK), you'll be after Glenn.
GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:
GE All!
A productive week I think. I decided I
would try building DroidStar on a
raspberry pi. Took me a couple days to
sort out the pre-req libraries and such.
Finally got it built.
But while it worked, I finally decided
that a raspi 3B doesn't really have
enough steam to run it well. So I tossed
it and loaded DVswitch. Now I had been
under the misguided impression that
DVswitch was only for bridging or cross
moding repeaters, which I guess it does
do, but it can also act as a personal
digital mode client. I'm impressed!
Works nice on a raspi 3B. I still have
some tweaking of the config files to do,
but no complaints!
I think I'll keep it!
Otherwise it's been hot here like
everywhere else I guess. So I've been
staying in!

N5VLZ:
Bob, FB on the DVSwitch deal. It's hard
to find something that will work the first
time...otherwise, you find out what the
term "beta tester" means (hi hi).
Rick probably won't be here tonight, as
his XYL is having knee replacement surgery.
GE Scott, how was your week?? >>>
**
K0WAV:
GE all. TNX Daryl for running the net, and
Bob TNX for the venue!
Yes, Hot Hot Hot.... today it was 95, they
are predicting 99 tomorrow which will
surpass 97.5 that we had back on Thurs the
24 (the hottest day so far for 2025 here).
Cooler temps supposed to be hear on Friday
and they will be welcome... at least with
the heat the grass doesn't grow so fast so
I don't have to get in the heat as often.
Had a good visit with my son and his fiance'
this past weekend. My son said he had gotten
his GMRS license and is studying for amateur
radio he is up in Springfield MO so it will
be either linked repeaters or NVIS if he gets
General.
Yes, Bob, I like DVSwitch, my "hotspot"
device is a Clear-Node from Node Ventures.
They include DVSwitch on the node and I use
the Android App for DVSwitch to call the node
directly form phone. Works quite well. I don't
do fruit based computers or phones, but I hear
the Zopier App for iOS work almost as good as
DVSwitch App for Android.
My RF dealings has been slow, just NTS traffic
nets and some data mode elmering with a couple
newer Generals.
K0WAV : That will do it for me BTU>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Scott, they are forecasting 100 here tomorrow.
I wish the grass growth would slow down. FB on
the visit with your son and his fiance' (I used
to think that was pronounced financee (hi hi),
and FB on him working toward his ticket. Loved
the comment on fruit (apple) deals...I've been
DOS, Windows, and Android all my computer life,
although I may develop a liking to penguins if
I get that Linux deal up.
GE Glenn, how was your week?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
GE everyone,
I have one eye on the tv watching this shooting
in NYC, one killed and multiple shot.
There is some crazy people out tbere.
Was out side this afternoon, and it's hot here
as well upper 90's and I am feeling it.
That it for me this round going to listen what's
going on.
btu Daryl>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Glenn, I didn't hear about that, but heard of
the multiple stabbings at a Wisconsin Walmart.
It makes you scared to even go out. In 6 months,
we'll be freezing our butts off (hi hi).
GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all on the net!
Our central Oklahoma hamfest in OKC was this
last weekend, but I was unable to attend this
year. I'm sure there were several items calling
my name...so maybe next year!
It has been very hot here as well, and supposed
to continue into next week. :(
Bob, I had the same impression the DVSwitch was
just for bridging, so I need to check out the
latest version. Thanks for the tip!
I need to get back into the swing of various
winlink thingies, including Winlink Wednesday,
Hamword, Tulsa Ares, and the great lakes winlink
net.
That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (OK), I went to Ham Holiday several years
ago...it was fun.
I forgot to check Winlink today, but have been
checking into the APRS Thursday net each week.
That is it for round 1...back to the top for
final comments.
Bob (NY), thanks for use of the BBS...anything
else?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Nothing more here - gonna head up and switch on
the news! everyone have a good week - 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob...have a good week.
Scott, anything else?? >>>
**
K0WAV:
One thing the nice thing about DVswitch is
the IAX protocol... allows you connect to
Allstarlink and run their network...
That is it BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Scott...have a good week.
Glenn, anything else?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
No, that's it for tonight, take care cul 73
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Glenn...take care.
Bob (OK), you get to wrap it up tonight.
Anything else?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
Nothing else. Thanks to you and Bob(NY) for
making this net happen. 73 all! >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob...have a good week.
That will do it for tonight's PCL Net. I will
post the scribe in the morning, as I need to
get a snack before my next net. Stay safe,
healthy, weather aware, radio active, and on
the cool side of the door. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
