Note: I got sidetracked after the net, and with
setting up a new phone (my other was on its last
legs), I completely forgot about posting the
scribe. :P I am so full of salted crow and humble
pie (and maybe something else) right now, which
explains why my eyes are brown (hi hi).

GE All, and welcome to the Feb 24 2025 PCL Net.
No early checkins. Hard to believe March starts
on Saturday, as does meteorological spring, and
our tornado season (ugh!).
Net order is Daryl, Bob (PA), Bob (NY), Rick,
Bob (MD), Carl, and whoever else shows up.
Our next net holiday is April 21, for Easter
(it's late this year).
N5VLZ:
Much of the US goes back to Daylight Savings Time
on Sunday, March 9, at 2am local time. The time
for this, and most other nets won't change, but
if you observe the time change, the UTC time for
nets will be an hour earlier. I checked with the
Arkansas Legislature website, and for now, there
is no additional progress on the bill that'd make
Arkansas on Central Standard Time year round. If
enacted, that'd affect more than just ham radio
traffic nets!!
The Amtrak trip to Wichita is on hold, as Union
Pacific Railroad is doing track work between
Fort Worth and St. Louis from March 20 through
June 3. It'll be 8 days on and 6 days off, and
in checking the calendar with my schedule, the
trip falls in the middle of a downtime. I'm
still waiting for confirmation from Amtrak
before I make any changes. I don't want to
fly, let alone take the bus. If I have to
cancel, I can use the money for other things.
What a difference a week makes in the weather
department!! We were down to around +10 this
past Thursday, and will hit the 70s this week.
It looks to be dry through next Sunday.
I got the new monthly square dance publication
released last night...and added a bunch of new
dances that'll be in the April issues, that'll
be released on March 30. I still have to update
the website, but that'll be later this evening.
I had ordered "pins" for my Google Nest Doorbell,
to "remove it" when I have to charge it. I had
thought I'd lost them, so I ordered a new set.
Today, I discovered that they were on another
lanyard, so I have 2 sets.
I updated my SharkRF OpenSpot Pro to stable
version 81 a bit ago, and installed DroidStar
on my Android phone. I was told to set the mic
gain at 1 or 2, otherwise the audio is too hot.
Also, my current cellphone is failing, so I'll
be going to the Post Office Box tomorrow to get
the replacement, a Samsung A16 Galaxy 5G model.
Then, I get to transfer all the data over. :P
I'm down to 235, not even eating 500 calories a
day, trying to ration what little food I have
left...6 small pot pies, a half a loaf of wheat
bread, and about 1/4 jar of peanut butter. Not
very nutritious, but I have no choice. I'll be
glad when that 401k funding is obtained, but I'm
not optimistic...I don't count my chickens before
they're hatched, but it'd be a great birthday
present next month.
There was a wild video of a speeding car in Ohio,
caught on a Virtual Railfan camera. The car went
airborne as he crossed the tracks, and went right
past a state trooper. The guy lost control of his
car, and took out a light pole just down the
street. Looked like The Dukes Of Hazzard (hi hi).

NS2B:
GE All!
Well last week was cold! But it warmed up today
like it did everywhere else it sounds like. Made
it to 51 today they say. All I know is it's wet
out there with all the snow and ice melting.
There'll probably be flooding.
I like taking trips on Amtrak, but they never seem
to work out exactly as you plan. On one trip to
NYC they put me on a bus 'cause we were having high
windsand they had stopped all rail traffic fearing
derailments. On another trip, had to do the bus
'cause rails had washed out along the Hudson River.
One of these days I'm hoping for a complete
successful trip!
Broke the packet node here this weekend. Was in
Syracuse, decided to do some remote maintainence,
things didn't go well - node crashed - didn't get
it back up til this morning when I got home.
Did play around a little with APRS via the ISS.
That's entertaining.
Sorry for your loss Glenn.
Nothing more here Daryl, 73 to all, stay warm,
stay dry!

VA7RBP:
GE Daryl and all on NET!
RR, I think last Monday was a civic holiday, so I
didn't check in.
Our weather has started to warm up the past couple
of days, it got up to 50F today, and we have had a
couple days of rain. The snow is almost gone.
Well, last week I was notified the the HF antennas
at our PREOC (Provincial EOC) had been re-installed,
after being out of service for almost two years. I
just happened to be nearby the PREOC in Nelson when
I got the email, so I went and inspected the
installation...they used an electrical contractor to
do the re-install..the contractor installed one
antenna upside down..(normally you have the drip loop
on the bottom) and the other antenna was installed
right through the center of an airhandling unit, with
the antenna wires touching the metal ducting. Now, I
have to wait until everything is installed correctly
before I can use the radios. I also went there on
Thursday and rewired all the ethernet wiring which was
pulled out of the switch, along with power to the
switch and a couple of remote rig units. I got the VHF
rig and the MSAT phone working, but I have to wait on
the antennas for the HF rigs.
Condolences Glenn!
That's it for me. Everyone have a great week, stay well,
73 until next time..

KB3KOW:
Good Evening all. Like everyone else, the WX has been up
and down all week -- 50+ then snow/ice and 50+ again :-)
Beyond that, all else has been good and slow.
Thanks for letting me join for the night. Have a great
week all.
**
KX4AC:
GE All. I lay down on the bed last week and slept right
through the net. Sorry about that, but I am back tonight.
The weather has been nice here, still cold in the mornings
but getting up to the high 70s in the afternoon. I had
lunch out on the patio today. I have been getting out
for some of the things that I was looking forward to. I got
to the art museum, and also to the local petroglyph site.
The latter was interesting, because they had local
archaeologists climbing all over the rocks cataloging the
drawings. They said it has been near a hundred years since
the last time that was done. The place is run by the local
college (ASU) so I imagine most of the workers were college
students.
I am getting my electronics workbench setup so that it is
useable, and found my ham radio test geat, but still no
lampshades. They will surely be in the last box. I should
decide which one that is and open it now, but I figure they
will then magically teleport to another box. Oh, well!
I am starting to get the lay of the radio land now, too.
There is a local club that runs a net each morning ...
more like a talk show almost. They have topics to talk
about, and even a weekly trivia contest. I have detected
a couple of BBS links in the area, but am having trouble
contacting them. Not sure what the problem is, but I need
to check out my antenna. The digipeaters are far-ish away,
but on the tops of mountains, so I should be able to work
them. I can hear them fine, so the problem must be on my
end. I need to spend some time to figure it out.
Sorry to hear about your dad, Glenn. Lost mine four years
ago. 73s to all.

N3MEL:
Evening everyone, sounds lime wx is starting to come around
toward spring, I hope.
We just finished up the Feb PKTNET with 68 check-ins.
Having sone leg pain here after being on my feet all day at
my father's celebration of life service on Saturday. I am 15
weeks out on a double knee replacement so stay home today
from work today. Feeling better tonight..
Thank you everyone for the well wishes! Everyone have a good
week and 73 from SEPA. GN

Replies from N5VLZ (as I can remember them):
I guess we lost Bob (PA), or I'm talking too much (hi hi).
Bob (NY), the weather is crazy, and we may see severe weather
including tornadoes early next week. Any mode of public
transportation is going to have issues at times...but I'd
rather be on the ground if it occurs. On the packet node crash,
it just got a bad case of "separation anxiety" when you went
away (hi hi). FB on APRS with the ISS.
Rick, last week, it was President's Day in the US...our next
net holiday is on April 21 (Easter is late this year). We may
have to worry about ice next week...in the form of hail!!
Bummer on the antenna installation screwup...hope you can get
that fixed.
Bob (MD), hard to believe we went from +10 last week to 70s
this week. We surely will pay the price for it next week.
Carl, you're not the only one who has slept through nets.
Some nights, it's hard for me to stay awake doing them!!
FB on the petroglyph site visit, and the electronics. Wish
we could teleport like those things do from moving boxes!!
GL on getting the packet BBS stuff going.
Glenn, FB on the PKT Net, but sorry to hear about the loss
of your Dad. I lost mine over 18 years ago to pancreatic
cancer, and my XYL died not 3 months later. I myself can't
stand in one spot for very long, due to degenerative disc
disease in my back and spine. GL on the upcoming double
knee replacement surgery.
