There's really no such place as Humberside any more - it made a brief
appearance as a new county after the Humber Bridge was built in the mid
1970s and the politicians decided it would be nice to draw a line around
North Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, and call it "Humberside".

It went down like a lead balloon and all the county boundary signs were
ripped up by vandals. Many refused to use the term Humberside, and in the
end, the government threw in the towel and reverted to North Lincolnshire
and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The post-code software used by many firms still retains the term
Humberside, and my postcode is HU16.

Curiously, the Fire and Rescue Service, police, local radio, Scouts and
other outfits still use the term Humberside, and the airport of the south
bank does too.

It seems like a good term to me.

Most Estuaries use similar terms - Deeside, Merseyside, Teesside, Tameside
Tyneside.

Well at least a guardian angel has taught you how to use a search engine!
Good eh? But a little local knowledge doesn't come amiss sometimes (on
local issues that is:-).

Well at least someone's found you the link to help you read the Hull
Daily Mail - hardly anyone else does!

That's the West Riding.

You know I don't do religion and anyway, cricket isn't a religion here in
the East Riding. Rugby is for those who like sport, which doesn't include
me.

For young people, the main sport takes place from 10pm to 4am. A good
night out consists of binge drinking, vomiting, getting stabbed in
arguments in taxi queues, and finding out a few days later that you've
contracted an STD.

On a busy night you have to put your name on a waiting list to be
mugged, and it's always a wise precaution to memorise you blood group.

The night club bouncers on the doors are very strict. They frisk you
for knives on the door and if you haven't got one, they give you one.

There, a bit of local flavour:-)

(TIC).

Write soonest.
