Hello everyone,
It was one year ago on 25 April that the mine in Beaconsfield Tasmania
collapsed trapping two men in a cage and killing their work mate.
There was so much interest and concern from all over the world during the
stressful time felt by all, that I thought I would post an update.
Many interviews have been done over the past 12 months with the two
survivors and they still have much stress to cope with and show the strain
of their ordeal.
In a ceremony on the anniversary of them being bought safely to the top
they presented the team of rescuers with a belt buckle each that had been
designed by them, as a thank you for the brave assistance given by the
team in their rescue. They all placed their own lives at risk.
During the days and nights the rescue was going on one of Australia's best
known journalists collapsed and died as he completed an interview at the
mine site, and he was also remembered with the unveiling of a plaque in
his memory.
I don't think any of us will be able to think of Beaconsfield with out
some sad thoughts of that horrific time.
Todd and Brent are moving on in their own way and will with time learn to
cope with their experience, though I doubt it will ever become easy. Their
memory of colleague and friend Larry Knight will also remain as a reminder
of their experience, and sad loss.
