Regarding the functionality of AGW and the Baycom modem with the Windows OS.
At the risk of 'boring people to tears', I'll release my new findings.
Not only is Windows 98SE is affected by the problem mentioned below, but I
discovered yesterday that Windows 95B is too! And probably plain old Windows
98 as well. I installed AGW/Baycom/WinPack/Ui-View on 2 computers and no go,
that is, till I applied the 'fix/hack' below. Yet the same combination in
Windows 95A on a Toshiba laptop is no problem.
In 95B the Baycom packet program did work from Windows, but no way would AGW
work. A bit different to my Windows 98SE problem below.

Windows 98 SE and Baycom modems.
The Problem
The Baycom modem will not respond when used in Win98 SE, even at the DOS
prompt, or after exiting to DOS from Windows. This was tried using the AGW
Packet Engine and WinPack in Windows, then Baycom, TPK and T4 in DOS. Once
Windows has it's 'sticky fingers in the pie', the Baycom modem will not work!
After a re-boot, and by pressing the F8 key to enter DOS, the Baycom modem
works OK, with the Baycom program, TPK or T4! Just keep Win98 SE *well* away
from it!!!!!!!!
The Fix;
Explanation;
Win98 SE puts the com port to sleep! It will not work! Serg, a French station
has put out several bulletins about this and how to modify Win98 SE to
correct this, "going to sleep" and stopping the com port working.
Registry Sequence;
With your WINDOWS EXPLORER, open the WINDOWS directory.
Find and open the REGEDIT.EXE program.
Open (with + or double click).
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
System
CurrentControlSet
Services
VxD
VCOMM.
Open EnablePowerManagement .
Change 01 00 00 00 (erasing 01)
to 00 00 00 00 (entering 00)
Close REGEDIT and EXPLORER
RE-BOOT the PC.
DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE! That is, unless you want an unusable version of
Windows!!!!
