KD4POR recently pointed me in the direction of the following:

in order to work around the memory bug that AGW packet engine has.
If uyou don't know alread, AGW uses ram to store and decode data but fails
to release it when done, eventually you run out of RAM your PC crashes
big time.
Adding more ram just extends the time you have before it will eventually
crash.
RAM Defragmenter will monitor the situation and reclaim the RAM when RAM
gets low (you can specify at what point you wish it to go and reclaim RAM).
It seems to work and I am using it now.
Since it's only 85kb I'm sending it on packet for those of you that have
no internet access.
NOTE:
Set the refreh rate in the options to about 10,000 milliseconds.
If it's set to 1 or 2 seconds the is a bit of a performance overhead.
