I have just heard the news that British Aerospace Systems is to sell it's
remaining 20% share in Airbus. We started Airbus in the 1960s, together
with the French, using tax payer's money, in the 1960s. A sensible
alternative to the Concorde, which I always thought was a waste of time.
All my life. That is since WWII, I have seen british inventions and
companies disappear through bad management and asset stripping.
Our governments have made mistakes, starting with paying back the
Americans for WWII and the $US6.8 billion we borrowed just after it.
The European Coal and Steel Community, the forerunner of the EU, told
Uncle sam to 'go away' when he offered to join with a bag of dollars.
We have had no motor manufacturers for a long time. Our many aircraft
makers vanished.
The only thing left, the jewel in the crown, is Rolls Royce Aerospace.
Still the maker of the world's best aero engines.
RR cars is now German owned. I wonder how long RR engines will last?
Who will buy UK Airbus? Come on Uncle Sam. Or will it be Mohammed El
Fayed?
All the best from - Ian, G0TEZ @ GB7FCR
