Hello aero fans
The Antonov 225 cargo plane. Picture taken from a video taken at the Paris
Air Show just after this plane recieved it's certification to be used as a
commercial airliner in 2001.
Originally designed to carry the Soviet space shuttle, which only
completed one space mission before the fall of the soviet union,it is a
one of a kind aircraft. The space shuttle was caried on top of the plane
piggyback style.
This six engined Goliath crushed 109 world records. Including that it can
lift up to 250 metric tons of payload, takes up to 288 000 litres of fuel
and has a range of up to 12000 Km. It burns approximately 18 tons of jet
fuel every hour. The cargo area is so big that the Wright brothers could
have made their first flight inside the plane. Wingspan 88 meters and the
six engines produce a staggering 300 000 ponds of thrust.
This is the biggest aircraft in the world at the moment and when fitted
with seating it can transport almost 1500 passengers.
All these facts was given during a documentary on the discovery channel
