Vulcan XL391 completed 22/5/63 with Olympus 301 engines and Blue Steel
modifications served with A&AEE, Cottesmore Wing, Akrotiri Wing,
9 and 101 Squadron, was then selected for the Black Buck mods during
the Falklands war but not used operationally. Was with 44 Squadron on
21/6/82 sold to Manchester Vulcan Bomber Society 11/2/83 and flown
to Blackpool being sat in the sea air for 23 years took its toll and
today the aircraft that could weigh up to 100 tons at takeoff was reduced
in just a few min to scrap, XL391 was at one time offered on Ebay bids
reached 6000 pounds, a pub landlord bought her but had under estimated
the problems of moving such a large aircraft and in the end the scrap
man moved in a sad end .

VULCAN.JPG is XL391 taken 2 years ago.

Who would ride a vehicle that falls over when you stop? :-)
