The charm of 6 metres is partly its unpredictability. I have complained
all summer of the lack of stations on 6; no beacons, no signals, no Es,
silence wall to wall!
Today I left the rx scanning and heard a beacon come up - VK6RSX in
Dampier, 2200 km (1375 miles)north of here. There was a buzz on the signal
which would be either auroral or else a problem with the beacon
transmitter. Tone was about T7. I called CQ on 50.110 and immediately
JA6RJK came back at 599 both ways. Nothing else. Beacon disappeared too.
Working JAs from my part of the country is rather rare.Distance is about
8000km (5000 miles)
If anyone from Dampier or Karratha is reading this you had better check
the beacon to see whether there is a fault. The tone was rough. Maybe it
was aurora.Maybe a fault.
