2M 143.775 CH5a TV from VK was in for 2 minutes 1010 pm 19-12-03 nzdst
There is a new beacon in Newcastle on 50.288 and it is very strong
in ZL3 when the band is open.
Rod ZL3NW worked some Ws and XE on the 22-12-03
In a good season you would exspect to work DX every day between
Christmas day and New Years day ( Sporadic E ) on 6m I did last
year but the Sunspot numbers are up and the Sun is disturbed.
Nomally 2m Sporadic E ( The only way to work VK from here ) is
at it's best when the Sunspot numbers are at minumium.
( We have 8000ft mountains 50km wide between us and VK )
We are well to the edge of the TEP belt to Japan in ZL. Only
once every few years we get JA's S9+ for 2 or 3 hours , Last
time was 27-12-02 ( worked 100 )
On the 8-1-04 ZL3AAU worked VK6HK,VK6ZKO. Beacons heard
VK8RAS,VK6RSX. He has a far better station than I have.
( Two 6 element long boom yagi's stacked , top one at 75ft )
I could only just here the above stations !
Holidays were from 19-12-03 to 12-01-04 so from now on
I will only be on week nights and weekends only.
On the 12-1-04 I heard CH5a VK TV 143.775 on Sporadic E
at 5.55pm NZDST, Nothing worked on 2m.
My equipment is a FT101zd to a FTV650b transverter 6m, 50w
to a 4 element beam. On 2m I can use a separate FT101zd to
a FTV250 transverter 2m, 10w to a AM17 400w pep to a 12
element beam. Most of the time I have the two transverters
interconnected to only one FT101zd MK2. The other FT101zd
mk3 is connected to a FL2100 amp and HF antenna's.
