General information.
Denmark, OZ. OZ6OM - OZ50MHz DX Bulletin editor, QRV in Nordic Acti-
vity Contest 50 MHz section Tuesday September 25 th. 17:00 - 21:00 UT.
I will be QRV round 50.173 MHz ñ QRM, from JO55CE which is on the
South/West side of the Island of Fyn. Here I'm situated at one of our
highest points at 128 Asl. with a formidable takeoff 360 deg. round
the clock. The rig used is an Icom IC-706 with 100 watt wich gives my
2 * 5 Element Yagi's more than 1 Kw. erp. This should be sufficient to
reach stations within a range of, at least 500 Km even on flat ConDX.
If You want to file a log showing Your efforts in the NAC there is an
open class section. Point 1 point/km, bonus 500 point each WWL. Log
goes to Verner Topsoe, Lundumskovvej 13, DK-8700 Horsens, Denmark
Hope to see You down the log vy 73 de OZ6OM "Matt"
Ogasawara Isl., JD1. Yoshi JE2DWZ, writes; JD1BKZ & JM1MKB/JD1 have
been active on 6m from Ogasawara Isl., QL17CC with TS-690S and hat-
hentena and they will stay there next 3-5years. Their QSL info are as
follows: JD1BKZ: bureau, JM1MKB/JD1: bureau. If you need QSL faster
than bureau, you can QSL to JE2DWZ with SAE and sufficient $ or IRC.
Since QSLing via bureau takes a bit longer, I will be pleased to handle
their QSL as a QSLmanager. Their QSL cards will be printed soon..
Good DX on 6m. 73 JE2DWZ Yoshi, je2dwz@jarl.com

Galapagos, HC8. Jon N0JK, writes; I will be returning to the HC8N sta-
tion San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos November 20 - 26 to partici-
pate in the CQ WW CW contest. Plan to be QRV on 6 and 2 Meters includ-
ing WSJT and the FO/AO-10 SAT. Some of the group plan to arrive a few
days earlier and may be active. As this fall may see the last high solar
flux for Cycle 23, will emphasize working parts of the world needing HC8
on 6M such as Europe and Asia on 6M. - Jon N0JK
Cuaracao, PJ2. Geoff G4FKA, writes; Just a short note to summarise the
operation of the Bristol Contest Group from Cuaracao (FK52) during July
2001. We were there between 20th July and 31st July, primarily to ope-
rate HF and the IOTA contest. Three of us (G4FKA, M0AXF, M0WLF) also
operated 50MHz. There were only two days when the conditions got as far
as PJ2. Normal skip seems to be to uninhabited ocean!! As PJ2/G4FKA, I
worked 37 stations in W/K on 20th July in various squares, mainly EM,
EL, FM and DN, and ZF1DC in EK99. Not great strengths, typically S3-5.
On 21st the only QSO was 4M1X, just before the island received its IOTA
reference. Finally 22nd, with 4 USA and 1 CO in FL11. And that was it.
We put out CW/SSB calls on several days with no return. It was frustra-
ting to hear that EU was being worked from further east in the Carib-
bean but the lift didn't get to the Antilles. Did anyone by chance hear
us but we didn't hear them? I'd be interested to know. Geoff G4FKA.
Niger, 5U. The same crew that aired 5U2K, 5U3T & 5U5A in March 2001 will
go back to Niger in January/February 2002 for a two week DXpedition. The
group will be enlarged with the participation of 3/4 new operators from
Italy and USA. At least 3 stations will be put on air with special at-
tention to 80/160 meters. Operations will take place on 10 through 160
meters on CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31 and on 6 meters CW/SSB. A dedicated web page
will be shortly put on-line and it will include all information about
the upcoming activity. Three callsigns will be announced later. (The

Australia, VK. Steve VK3OT/VK3SIX writes; VK3SIX beacon. A crystal has
been ordered to place VK3SIX on 50.293 Mhz in accordance with the at-
tempt to move VK beacons out of prime dx space and to minimise the dis-
ruptive effect beacons have on weak signal working by capturing a sen-
sitive front end. This falls into line with the VK6 beacons all above
50.300 (VK east has a top band limit of 50.300). Should be on the air
by September equinox. The 28 mhz outlet on 28.253 will be bumped up to
293 also to coincide and make it easy to flick between bands. VK3SIX
Kuwait, 9K. Effective September 15th, the Kuwait Amateur Radio Society
(KARS), in conjunction with the Kuwait Ministry of Communications, has
authorized the use of the callsign 9K2USA. This single callsign 9K2USA
(NINE KILO TWO UNITED STATES of AMERICA) will be heard on all bands and
all modes and will be used by "all Kuwait Amateurs" simultaneously. As
a small token of the sympathy and support for the people of the United
States from the citizens of Kuwait, and as an expression of deep condo-
lence, the callsign will be used until the end of September. The Kuwait
Amateur Radio Society (KARS) will be doing the QSL chores. They will
put together a common database, and all QSLs will be via 9K2RA. (QSP
de OPDX #529)
South Africa, ZS. Pieter ZS6PVW, writes in a packetradio mail (Yes this
net does still exists ;-) ZS6 SIX repeater QRV again. After a silence
of a few months, the Magalies Amateur-radio Club's 6m repeater is back
on the air. It was shut down because it caused interference on our
145.750 MHz repeater. On Thursday, the 9th of August, the 6m repeater
were taken down from it's site west of Pretoria, and moved to it's new
site east of Pretoria. The Maidenhead locator is KG44DH. The repeater
input is on 51.150 MHz, and the output on 52.750 MHz. Please give us a
call on this repeater if the conditions opens up between EU and ZS. The
equipment in use is a PYE R18/T100, output 20 Watt into a single ver-
tical dipole. Hope to have a DX QSO with you on the SIX repeater in
Pretoria !! 73 Pieter ZS6PVW
