General information.
Editorial. As You allready might have seen in the DX Calendar, under
remarks is now a # number. This is ment to be a catalouge / refference
to which number the full info regarding the present operation can be
found. I must itmit, this is not my own idea, but a suggestion made by
Wolfgang DJ3TF, some weeks ago. Thanks for the idea Wolfgang. Now with
such refference system, I think it should not be nessesary to have each
info in two following issues. So latest from issue #02-001, but hope-
fully before, each info will only be printet once. I'm open to sugges-
tions and comments regarding this matter, so feel free to let me hear
Your opinion ! E.d. OZ6OM "Matt"
Chile, CE. Sergio, IZ6BRN (ex VU3CUR, AP2WAP, 9N7RN) has been in Chile
for six months and will be working there for a couple of years. He is
active as CE3/IZ6BRN exclusively on 12, 17 and 6 metres. QSL via home
call. (QSP de 425 DX News #540)

Cocos Island, TI9M. Henry Grunbeck, TI2HMG, is planning a DXpedition to
the island, with other operators, from February 4 to 19, 2002. The main
goal of this operation is to provide as many stations with a new coun-
try. The last DXpedition to this semi-rare island was in 1997 by TI9CF
and TI9JJP. Activity is expected on 6 through 160 meters on CW, SSB and
RTTY. The group expects to use TI9M and have 4 stations with one dedi-
cated to RTTY. A web site at http://www.qsl.net/ti2hmg/cocos.htm.

Peru, OA. I am leaving my 706 with some members of the Radio Club Peru-
ano who are going to activate an island off the coast of Lima on the
13th 14th and 15th of Sept with a three element yagi. The call will be
4T0I. I only made one contact from Lima and that was PY5CC. On the 2nd
I heard the XE1KK beacon for three hours with no live stations heard.

zambique from September 28 to October 13. Two, possibly three, stations
will be used and when band openings permit 6 meters will be active. On-
line logs will be available after the DXpedition on their homepage at

CW and RTTY. Antennas will include a V80 and LP5 with an amplifier. QSL

Gibraltar, ZB. ZB0AA Beacon: Extract from e-mail: Hi Peter, I am very
pleased with your report of my 6m Beacon, it is the first I have recei-
ved, it has only been running for about 3 weeks on a trial basis. Ho-
pefully it will remain permanent, however, as I will be going for a
two-week holiday on the 12th (Sept) I'm afraid that I shall have to
shut it down for that period. Below is the info which I hope will be
of interest to you. The equipment is installed in my third floor flat,
with the antenna on top of another three floors above me. ZB0AA 50.035

ITU Geneve, 4U1ITU. Dave EI3IO writes; Report - 50 MHz 28 - 31 August
2001 During about 10 hours of operating 47, 50 MHz QSOs were completed
including 3 MS QSOs with G, GW and ON4. Countries worked were 5B4, CT,
EA, F, G, GM, GW, HB9, I, LZ, ON and OY. 41 different stations were
worked using CW or SSB. A few points: 1. Antenna directions were dif-
ficult to compute due to a faulty/out of alignment direction indicator
as well as multiple reflections from buildings and/or mountains 2.
There is no packet cluster facility currently operational at 4U1ITU
3. I did not have time to read Email at an Internet Cafe! 4. Until the
afternoon of 31 August, CW was sent by finger taping one side of a
Bencher paddle - hence the slower than usual CW and 5. MS QSOs took
longer than necessary due to QRM from stations calling during the
QSO; due to lack of reflections QSOs took about 40 Minutes. I had 4 Es
events 1 to GM and OY, 2 to EA/CT and 1 to LZ/5B. I tried to maximise
QSOs by working Es when Es were there, rather than look for scatter
paths! The rig was a Yaesu TX/RX (24, 28 and 50 MHz) with about 80
watts to a 5 element Tonna. The activity took place during a business
trip; operational hours were therefore limited. I also had to eat! As
to the future, there is only 1 active IARC member on the ITU staff; he
does a great job but he cannot spend all his spare time (not much) on
4U1ITU business, he has a family! For operational reasons (ITU require-
ments) it is now quite difficult to obtain unsupervised access to
4U1ITU outside working hours. It is after all the HQ of a UN Agency.
Nevertheless, I shall try to plan a long (4 day) weekend at 4U1ITU per-
haps with 2 operators during the 2002 or 2003 sporadic E season June/
July. I also need to work the country somehow! QSL information. A 100%
QSL policy is operated by 4U1ITU, albeit a little slow due to the vol-
ume of cards. Bureau or via IARC, PO Box 6, CH-1211 Geneva is accep-
table. For 50 MHz QSOs only, made by me during this August 2001 acti-
vity, I have already prepared cards for all the 6 metre QSOs completed.
For a period of 3 months they can be obtained from EI3IO (address info
on http://EI3IO.com). After 3 months I will send them to the bureau.

Vietnam, XV. Sam, JA1EUI, is going to Danan, Vietnam from September 21
to 28. He expects to operate on all bands from 6 to 80 meters mainly
on SSB. Sam hopes to obtain the callsign XV3Z or XV3ZZ. He will have a
regular schedule on 21230 at 2130Z every day with JA1TAA or JA1BQ. QSL

Eritrea, E3. E30NA Chris, DL5NAM, and Dieter, DF4RD say, "We are going
to do it again!" After a very successful trip last year as E30TA they
will go again this year as E30NA to Eritrea. Last year the two got many
emails with questions for the low bands and CW. So they will double
their team for this year to include Chris DL5NAM (SSB,RTTY,6m), Dieter
DF4RD (SSB/CW), Wolf OE2VEL (low bands, SSB/CW) and Falk DK7YY (low
band, CW). The team will start on October 17 through November 3. The
exact QTH has not been determined at the moment however they will try
to go to IOTA island (AF-038). The problem at the moment is the power
situation on the island and the high cost for shipping to the island.
The only location on the island is under construction and should (!)
be finished by the end of September. There is no ferry service, so they
will have to charter a boat and will need a truck for transport from
airport to the port (5 hour trip). If they can't go to the island they
will stay again in the capital. The group must again pay $500 (US) for
each license. At the moment they have no big sponsors, as they have
been told this is not rare enough. The group is asking the DX community
for financial support. Anyone who can help support this operation is
asked to please contact team leader Chris, DL5NAM, by e-mail to
dl5nam@qsl.net. The emphasis this year will be for more North America,
Asia, and the lowbands. A web site for E30NA will be coming soon to
www.qsl.net/e30na. (QSP de The Daily DX #170)
United Arab Emirates, A6. UAE Don Greenbaum, N1DG, says he is heading
back to Dubai, United Arab Emirates to operate in the CQ World Wide SSB
DX Contest. He will operate from the station of either Jamal, A61AO, or
Saeed, A61AD, from October 24 to 30. This is a business trip so it will
be a limited operation outside the contest except for 6 meters and sa-
tellite. During the contest Don will do a single-op single band effort.
