                             General information.

A era comes to an end ! At the 31 st. of May, I (and others) recived an
email from Arne SM7AED, saying; "Dear friends, Thanks for all info you
have sent me. May 31. Final issue. Thanks for watching. Have a nice
summer. 73 Arne SM7AED" I think it's only in place to thanks Arne for
his effort over the years, bringing first a exelent newsletter and la-
ter a fine newspage at the internet. Personally I will miss the the
fine service Arne provided, as Arne also covered many non-DX topics,
but still band related information in his newsletter. Arne for what
ever reason You stopped, You must know Your service will be missed by
many. But with respect for the work You did over the years, I'll whis
You all well ... and hope You'll continue enjoying the 6 metre band
... see You on the band, VY 73 de OZ6OM Matt

Laos, XW. Hiro, JA2EZD is now active on 6-80 metres as XW0X from Laos

Guantanamo Bay, KG4. Dale AA5XE writes; Pat Rose, W5OZI, and Dale
Richardson, AA5XE, will operate from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (FK29) during
the period 29 June to 5 July, 2001. Area clearance has been granted and
callsigns will be announced later. Operation will be primarily on SIX
meters with possible activity on HF. Proposed frequencies will be
50.102 MHz for CW/SSB, QSX 50.115 or operators instructions if pileups
are large. There will be a breakable beacon on 50.102 MHz and the ope-
rators will man the station to the maximum extent possible. Equipment
will be an Icom IC-706MKIIG and a Kenwood TS-60, both running 100 watts
to an 8 element yagi. QSL to home calls, SASE or SAE plus 1 IRC please.
This is a bare bones trip and we will not have computer logging or logs
on the internet. We hope to put as many stations in the log as possible
Dupes are OK. Full calls ONLY! We do NOT care about your grid, just
call and signal report. We will make an effort to work Europe, Africa,
   N. and S. America. Questions can be submitted to W5OZI, w5ozi@ktc.com
   or AA5XE, aa5xe@ktc.com 73, Dale N. Richardson, AA5XE

Greenland, OX. A number of amateurs from the OX2K gang will be going
back to the site (GP47) in the end of october this year. Callsign will
be XP1AB and the main event will be the CQWW contest on HF. However we
will bring (of course) 6 m gear tough we are not likely to create the
same magic as in 2000. The trip is open for other amateurs who would
like to participate. The HF setup is going to be BIG see
www.qsl.net/xp1ab for more details. Claus OZ1FDH oz1fdh@qsl.net (QSP

70 MHz ! A QSP from Arne SM7AED says; Any interest of 70 MHz in the
Nordic countries ? The Swedish VHF manager Anders, SM2ECL, is going to
discuss this item on the Nordic VHF meeting at Gottskaer,nr Gothenburg
on June 08 - 10. If not going there, please tell him your opinion in
   advance to SM2ECL, e-mail Anders.T. Lathi@telia.com

Greenland, OX. Einar OX/LA5KW, writes; Hi just thought I would mention
   that OX3NUK, Godthaap/Nuuk now have a rig up at 50MHz. A 5 element beam
and 50 Watt of CW. So far VE8BY and TF3SIX have been heard. Will try to
listen everyday. 73 de Einar OX/LA5KW

Falklands, VP8. Just another reminder that I had to delay my trip to
VP8 until July - I doubt there will be any propogation then tho! Chris,

Six related chat room. Folks, just made a new chat for VHF freaks, fast
easy, and secure. You may create your own rooms (already 50 MHz, EME,
Meteorscatter) etc etc. Works much better than the old one. Few parts
are still in German language but will be translated soon. (Hard job,
tons of help files). Try it at http://dk5ya.de/cgi-bin/GTChat/chat.pl

   Bermuda, VP9. Confirming my 6m Dx'pedition to VP9, dates are 14th July
   to 22nd July, I will be taking 2 HF/6m Radios, 100 Watts, to a 5 ele-
ment, Visitors to VP9 are only allowed 100 Watts, call will be G0KOM/VP9
This is totally self funded, much to my Xyl's disgust, the 6m Radio will
be left on all the time, I will have an R6000 Vertical for HF, for ho-
pefully the odd occasion that 6m isnt open, hoping for some EU openings,
keep fingers crossed, thing that ther are a lot of Europeans who still
need VP9... Adrian G0KOM (QSP de UKSMG ann.)

Saudi Arabia, HZ. If you are looking for Mohamad, HZ1MD, take a careful
look at 50123, maybe even give him a call there. I suggested yesterday
it was a frequency not so likely to be occupied, and he will I think
try it for a while. Mohamad works only SSB and has 100W and a wire an-
tenna. Nick 5B4FL (QSP de UKSMG ann.)

Cambodia, XU. XU7ABR 6 m activity is plannded from July 21st - August
2nd. We will run a beacon on 50.090 MHz all of the time. If you can
copy this beacon please try to give us information that the band is
open for you. Give this information to one of our active HF-stations
and we will go to the magic band at once. Another way will be to
"answer" the beacon. It has a 30 second receiving time before it
starts again. Because it is quite hard to work on the other bands and
to watch 6 m at the same time, please stay patient, if we don`t answer
immediately. Try both methods and we hope to give you "a new one"!
There should exist some openings just into the Mediterranean area and
with some luck of an additional Es-hop also into Northern Europe.

Interested to try crossband 50/70 MHz ? Countries allowed to transmit
on 4 M are G, GM, GW, GD, GI,GJ, GU, EI, 5B, ZB2, ZS, and S5. Italy and
Poland are expecting an allocation soon. Most activity in UK is con-
testing and then crossbanding with 6M (50.185) Calling frequency is
70.200 MHz for ssb/cw. Power is 160 Watts to any antenna. Hope this
advertises 4M a bit more. Look out on 50.185MHz/70.200MHz for crossband

present permanently on 50.000 MHz (or few Hz lower) running well since
1995. Now is switched off for 2 weeks, time needed to change the old
mast and renew portable site just in time for IARU 6 m contest. After
that will be switch again with old or maybe some new antenna.Best 73

Falklands, VP8. Disaster guys: I'm sorry but at the 59th minute I have
had to cancel the trip to VP8. It's for the usual cited reason - busi-
