General information.
Denmark, OZ. OZ6OM - QRV in Nordic Activity Contest 50 MHz section
Tuesday May 22 nd. 17:00 - 21:00 UT. I will be QRV from JO55CE which
is on the South/West side of the Island of Fyn. Here I'm situated at
one of our highest points at 128 Asl. with a formidable takeoff 360
deg. round the clock. The rig used is an Icom IC-706 with 100 watt wich
gives my 2 * 5 Element Yagi's more than 1 Kw. erp. This should be suf-
ficient to reach stations within a range of, at least 500 Km even on
flat ConDX. If You should want to make a sked give me a call at the

qrv for four days from the Principality of Liechtenstein. Starting
friday 1st of June 2001 ending on monday 4th of june 2001. We will par-
ticipate on IARU Region 1 Fieldday. In addition we are QRV on 6 Meters
and on 10 GHz looking for ES and Rainscatter openings. Callsigns are

Marianas, KH0. WH0N, KH0N and WH0C will be the callsigns for the Nort-
hern Kyushu DX Club Expedition operating in the Mariana Islands in the
All Asia DX Contest June 15-19. Outside the contest they also be active

Jamaica, 6Y. Look for 6Y6L to be active October 23-30th. Operation will

Fernando de Noronha, PY0F. (Update). Dennis, K7BV, will begin operation
on May 24th as scheduled. After an All-Band/Single Op effort in the CQ
WPX CW Contest, he will operate through June 1st on all bands 160-6
meters, primarily on CW. A special callsign PV0F will be used through-

Region 1. 50 MHz Contest I.A.R.U. rules. Eligible entrants. All radio
amateurs in Region 1 who are authorized to use 50 MHz can participate
in the contest. Multiple operator entries will be accepted, provided
only one callsign is used during the contest. The contestants must
operate within the letter and spirit of the contest and at no greater
power than permitted in the ordinary licenses of their country. Sta-
tions operating under special high power licenses do so "hors con-
cours" and cannot be placed in the contest proper. Contest sections.
The contest will comprise the following sections: I) Stations operated
by a single operator, with no assistance during the contest, using
privately owned equipment and antennas and operating from any loca-
tion. II) All other entrants. No more than one transmitter may be in
use at any one time. A participating station must operate from the same
location throughout the event. Date of contest. The contest will begin
on the first Saturday of June.(02-06-2001) Duration of contest. The
contest will commence at 14.00 hours UT on the Saturday (02-06-2001)
and will end at 14.00 hours UT on the Sunday (03-06-2001). Contacts.
Each station can be worked only once, whether it is fixed, portable or
mobile. If a station is worked again during the same contest, only one
contact will count for points, but any duplicate contacts should be
logged without claim for points and clearly marked as duplicates.
Contacts made via active repeaters do not count for points. Any tele-
phony contacts made with stations transmitting in the telegraphy sub-
band shall not count for points. Type of emission. Contacts may be made
in A1A, R3A, A3E or F3E(G3E). Contest exchanges. Code numbers exchanged
during each contact shall consist of the RS or RST report, followed by
a serial number commencing with 001 for the first contact and increa-
sing by one for each successive contact. This exchange must immediately
be followed by the complete (6 character) or shortened (4 character)
Locator of the sending station (examples : 59003 JN64AH or 579123 JN64)
Scoring. Points will be scored on the basis of one point per kilometre.
In case the 4-character Locator has been received, the distance calcu-
lated should be the shortest distance between the claiming station and
the given Locator square. The final claimed score must be shown on the
top part of the first sheet. In order to make contest scores comparable
for the conversion from degrees to kilometres a factor of 111.2 should
be used when calculating distances with the aid of the spherical geome-
try equation (Noordwijkerhout, 1987). Entries. The entries must be set
out on log sheets fulfilling the requirements given under rule 12.
Multi-operator. stations shall be clearly marked as such. A copy of the
logs must be sent in papery copy and magnetic copy (diskette 1,44MB) or
by E-mail to the national VHF Manager or the national Contest Committee
postmarked not later than the second Monday following the contest week-
end (18-06-2001). Late entries will not be accepted. The submission of
the logs implies that the entrant accepts the contest rules. Sending
the electronic sheet the format you must be in .STD; you see Fastlog,
Taclog etc. Is required that the National Managers of the Region 1 does
the control of the own participants and sends then by Mail or by Packet
or by E-mail the final classifications of the own Country to the Mana-
ger. Organizer ( A.R.I. I4CIL ) with the log on diskette. Judging of
entries. The judging of the entries shall be the responsibility of the
organising society, whose decision shall be final. Entrants delibera-
tely contravening any of these rules or flagrantly disregarding the
IARU Region 1 bandplans shall be disqualified. Minor errors may result
in loss of points. Errors in the callsigns and code numbers will be
penalized by deducting for both stations the following percentage of
the score claimed for the pertaining contact: 1 error - 25 %. 2 errors
- 50 %. 3 or more - 100 %. The claimed contact will be disqualified
for an obviously wrongly stated Locator or a time error of more than
10 minutes. Claiming points for a duplicate contact will be penalized
by deducting ten times the number of points claimed for that duplicate
contact from the score. The contest entrants will not be penalized for
the failure of non-entrants to comply with the rules. Awards. The win-
ner 3 Station in each section will receive a TROPHIES ( A.R.I. ). The
Best of each Country according to the section will receive certificate
(A.R.I.). Logsheets. The logsheets for use in the IARU Region 1 contest
shall have an upright format not smaller than A4 and shall show the
following columns in the order named: date, time in UT, callsign of
the station worked, report sent, report received, Locator received,
number of points claimed. A standard cover sheet, containing the es-
sential information required to judge the contest entry and with se-
parate space for the comments of the national Contest Manager should
be used. The log should show the signature of the first operator cer-
tifying the correctness of the log submitted. Logsheets prepared by
the national societies and satisfying the above minimum requirements

Mongolia, JT. Nicola, I0SNY reports the JT1Y operation from Mongolia is
confirmed to start on 29 May. Activity is expected to take place on CW
50.110 MHz and SSB 50.140 MHz); special attention will be paid to 6

Honduras, HR. HR3WFM Hiro, JA6WFM, will be in Honduras for one year.
Callsign is HR3WFM. Look for him to be active on HF and SIX meters.

Christmas Island, T32. After his FH/JJ1LIB operation, Yutaka hopes to
be on from Christmas Island, T32 from May 27 to June. Activity will be
40-10, possibly 6, SSB, CW and RTTY. (The Daily DX via SMIRK)
Malawi, 7Q7. Five Japanese hams will be qrv from Malawi from June 6 to
June 19. Look for 7Q7YL (Okabe, who will stay 2 years), 7Q7CW (JG6BKB),
7Q7DU (JR6XIW), 7Q7EN (JJ6VOV) [QSL via JG6BKB], 7Q7KZ (JA2LZF=QSL Home
QTH). This is also an HF operation. They have an IC-706MK2 with 100

Honduras, HR. Andy YS1AG, writes; Just talked on the telephone (08/05/
01) with Keko, TI5KE he is now at the house of HR1BY and by wednesday,
latest on thursday he plans to go to Isla del Tigre in the gulf of
Fonseca, EK63 possibly as /HR4 Monday next week I may join them to
Meanguera Island, very close to the other one, but YS3. Both islands
are mainly a IOTA avtivity but also will be a dedicated station in

Falkland Isl. VP8. Chris G3WOS/VP8DBL, writes; I have just booked my
flights to go back to the Falkland Islands as VP8DBL. I plan to leave
on the 24th May and come back around 5th June. There is an outside
chance I may have to cancel at the last minute, but as it is an all-
expenses-paid trip I hope I won't have to - and I do have to work at
least a little bit! You might think that it is a trifle late and you
may well be right! However, I saw little thrill in going back in mid
April and working all the same stations again in 2001 as I did in
2000. However last year, Keith VP8CMT worked into the UK on 29th May
with an Es extension so the plan is to concentrate on trying to work
into northern Europe and northern USA via this mode. Of course I'll
work anything else I hear. I'll be taking an amplifier with me so this
might help. Maybe this is the last chance for this cycle! Chris Chris,

Holland, PA. Special event. Eric, PA3DZM, writes; The clubstation
PI4TIL will use the special call PA6T in the period May 27th untill
june 3rd. During the fieldday weekend we'll enter the CW contest and
the 6 meter contest. During the weekend of 2 and 3 june we'll be active
on 80-6 meters, 2 meters, 70 cm, 23 cm, 13 cm. We'll be active in CW,
Phone, SSTV, RTTY, PSK31, ATV, satellites. On Wednesday May 30th, we'll
be active on SSTV from 18.00-22.00 UT around the usual SSTV frequencies

Australia, VK. Steve VK3OT, writes; It has been noted that the VK3SIX
beacon during E layer extensions into Northern Australia brought lots
of opposite direction traffic on 50.110 from people attempting to work
E layer to VK2/VK3 whilst VK3's were trying to get at long distance F2
dx. This was a high undesirable situation which produced altercations
so the whole issue of the beacons and what sort of dx that they attract
is under examination. Your miss dx if you dont have a beacon and get
qrm if you do. Following the failure of the 10M outlet however on
28.253 the 50.053 beacon has also be closed down pending frequency
changes to 28.293/50.293 in our spring. VK3SIX
Guam, KH2. A group from the JA2 area will be active from here between
June 9-12th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters. The callsigns and the

Faroe Isl., OY. Max/ON5UR and Wim/ON4CJI of the United Radio team will
perate from Faroe Island with the callsign OY9UR, from May 28th through
June 7th. They will be operating on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 and 6 me-
ters. Wim is expected to be on PSK31. Also, look for them on May 26-
27th and June 8-9th as a /MM. They will be active during the 6 meter
contest on June 2-3rd. There will be a special full color QSL cards for
