Sardinia, IS0. Georges F8OP, writes; Fred F6DZB will be IS0/F6DZB from
13.05 to 31.07 in JN40. 100 watts into a 3 elts. 73 Georges F8OP
Mongolia, JT. Nicola, I0SNY reports the JT1Y operation from Mongolia is
confirmed to start on 29 May. Activity is expected to take place on CW
50.110 MHz and SSB 50.140 MHz); special attention will be paid to 6
metres. (QSP de 425 DX #523) (But oviously not to the bandplan ! CW at
the SSB DX call QRG ! shame ! E.d. OZ6OM)
Honduras, HR. HR3WFM Hiro, JA6WFM, will be in Honduras for one year.
Callsign is HR3WFM. Look for him to be active on HF and SIX meters.

Christmas Island, T32. After his FH/JJ1LIB operation, Yutaka hopes to
be on from Christmas Island, T32 from May 27 to June. Activity will be
40-10, possibly 6, SSB, CW and RTTY. (The Daily DX via SMIRK)
Malawi, 7Q7. Five Japanese hams will be qrv from Malawi from June 6 to
June 19. Look for 7Q7YL (Okabe, who will stay 2 years), 7Q7CW (JG6BKB),
7Q7DU (JR6XIW), 7Q7EN (JJ6VOV) [QSL via JG6BKB], 7Q7KZ (JA2LZF=QSL Home
QTH). This is also an HF operation. They have an IC-706MK2 with 100

Honduras, HR. Andy YS1AG, writes; Just talked on the telephone (08/05/
01) with Keko, TI5KE he is now at the house of HR1BY and by wednesday,
latest on thursday he plans to go to Isla del Tigre in the gulf of
Fonseca, EK63 possibly as /HR4 Monday next week I may join them to
Meanguera Island, very close to the other one, but YS3. Both islands
are mainly a IOTA avtivity but also will be a dedicated station in

Falkland Isl. VP8. Chris G3WOS/VP8DBL, writes; I have just booked my
flights to go back to the Falkland Islands as VP8DBL. I plan to leave
on the 24th May and come back around 5th June. There is an outside
chance I may have to cancel at the last minute, but as it is an all-
expenses-paid trip I hope I won't have to - and I do have to work at
least a little bit! You might think that it is a trifle late and you
may well be right! However, I saw little thrill in going back in mid
April and working all the same stations again in 2001 as I did in
2000. However last year, Keith VP8CMT worked into the UK on 29th May
with an Es extension so the plan is to concentrate on trying to work
into northern Europe and northern USA via this mode. Of course I'll
work anything else I hear. I'll be taking an amplifier with me so this
might help. Maybe this is the last chance for this cycle! Chris Chris,

Holland, PA. Special event. Eric, PA3DZM, writes; The clubstation
PI4TIL will use the special call PA6T in the period May 27th untill
june 3rd. During the fieldday weekend we'll enter the CW contest and
the 6 meter contest. During the weekend of 2 and 3 june we'll be active
on 80-6 meters, 2 meters, 70 cm, 23 cm, 13 cm. We'll be active in CW,
Phone, SSTV, RTTY, PSK31, ATV, satellites. On Wednesday May 30th, we'll
be active on SSTV from 18.00-22.00 UT around the usual SSTV frequencies

Australia, VK. Steve VK3OT, writes; It has been noted that the VK3SIX
beacon during E layer extensions into Northern Australia brought lots
of opposite direction traffic on 50.110 from people attempting to work
E layer to VK2/VK3 whilst VK3's were trying to get at long distance F2
dx. This was a high undesirable situation which produced altercations
so the whole issue of the beacons and what sort of dx that they attract
is under examination. Your miss dx if you dont have a beacon and get
qrm if you do. Following the failure of the 10M outlet however on
28.253 the 50.053 beacon has also be closed down pending frequency
changes to 28.293/50.293 in our spring. VK3SIX
Guam, KH2. A group from the JA2 area will be active from here between
June 9-12th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters. The callsigns and the
QSL information are as follows: K1HP/KH2 (Yoshi) via JE2EHP, KH2/JH2QFY

Faroe Isl., OY. Max/ON5UR and Wim/ON4CJI of the United Radio team will
perate from Faroe Island with the callsign OY9UR, from May 28th through
June 7th. They will be operating on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 and 6 me-
ters. Wim is expected to be on PSK31. Also, look for them on May 26-
27th and June 8-9th as a /MM. They will be active during the 6 meter
contest on June 2-3rd. There will be a special full color QSL cards for

United Kingdom. 2001's UKSMG Sporadic-E Competition - Date/time; The
contest will take place from 1200z on Saturday 9th June to 1200z on
Sunday 10th June 2001 (24 hours duration). Sections; There will be
five UK sections: (1) Single operator, fixed station (2) SWLs (3)
Novice stations - maximum 3W PEP (4) QRP stations - maximum 3W PEP (5)
Multi-Operator / Club Fixed Station, There will be three other sec-
tions: (5) Rest of Europe (6) Rest of the World (7) Rest of Europe/
World, club, portable and multi-op. Exchange; The contest exchange
shall consist of: Callsign, RST, UKSMG membership number (if you have
one), Locator (only four characters required, e.g. IO91), Serial num-
bers are not required. Scoring; One point is scored per ontact plus
one additional point if the contact is with a UKSMG member. Multiply
this by the total number of countries worked (do not forget your own
country!) and then by the total number of locators worked: SCORE =
(CONTACTS+UKSMG MEMBERS) x COUNTRIES x LOCATOR SQUARES. Only one sco-
ring contact with each station is permitted. Other Rules; The contest
is open to all users of 50MHz, whether or not UKSMG members. UK STA-
TIONS: Your attention is drawn to the fact that NO PORTABLE OPERATION
WILL BE PERMITTED BY UK STATIONS. If you are contemplating entering
this contest from a location which is genuinely an alternative address
(rather than a portable location) you may write to your local Radio-
communications Agency office [see http://www.radio.gov.uk for contact
details] and inform them of your plans to operate from that temporary
location http://www.radio.gov.uk/publication/ra_info/br68/br68.htm and
refer to clause 7(3)(b). Taking this step NOW will mean that you will
be able to operate from a bona fides alternative fixed station address
without the requirement to sign "/P" Note that contacts with any UK
"/P" stations will be deleted from entrant's logs, and 10% of the final
score will be deducted as a penalty. Two or more such contacts will
result in disqualification. Any UK station heard making contest QSOs
signing "/P" will be subject to disqualification from the contest and,
at the Committee's discretion, expulsion from the UKSMG. We are con-
fident that entrants will fully understand our reasons for the severe
nature of these restrictions, which have been applied under this year's
exceptional circumstances. Use of the packet radio DX cluster is per-
mitted, however self spotting to solicit contacts during the contest
is prohibited and will result in disqualification. All licence condi-
tions must be observed. QSOs within your own continent must be outside
the DX Window 50.100-50.130 MHz. Entries; Logs can be in any format as
long as all multipliers and duplicate entries are clearly marked. For
the sake of simplicity, please send your computer logs only in ASCII
(plain text) format. A check list of each country, locator square and
membership number worked/heard must be included with your entry. The
following declaration must accompany your entry: "All rules governing
amateur radio in my country have been adhered to and I agree that the
judges decision is final." No special contest stationery is required.
If you dont have a computer logging program you may simply send copies
of your log provided all of the necessary information is available and
the entries are clearly legible. Entries must be postmarked no later
than 9th July 2001 and sent to the contest manager. Entries on dis-
kette or by email are preferred. If sending by email, address them to
pa7fm@amsat.org. We will try to work with any reasonable file format.
Please include in your email the text of the declaration referred to
in the rules (above). The deadline for email entries is the same as

and JI0PFJ. Look for activity on 6, 10, 15, 17, 20 and 40 meters CW

Market Reef, OJ0. QRZ DX tells of Norwegian operators Trond, LA9VDA;
Arne, LA3IKA; Bjorn, LA5UKA; and Paul, LA6YEA; going to Market Reef
from August 5 to 8. The team will use their home calls /OJ0 on 2
through 160 meters CW, SSB and RTTY. Lars, OH0RJ, has also been invited

beacon list, and I cannot see a listing for the ZL1VHF beacon. Here is

Antenna: Half wave vertical., Grid Locator: RF73MB., Site: Whitford
(30km SE from Auckland City CBD). Site Height: 220m ASL. Transmitted
ID: "ZL1VHF WHITFORD RF73MB ZL1VHF"., Operation: 24 Hours, 7 Days. Hope
this is of use in maintaining the accuracy of your 6m beacon lists.
