METRES IN GREECE THIS IS NOT PERMITTED BY THE GREEK MINISISTRY OF
TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS. See www.qsl.net/oh2mcn/licence.htm. for
latest news. I have written to the greek goverment and they do not
permitt any person who is not a Greek Citizen to operate on 6m. You
must hold a proper SV call - not even a SV0 call. Operation under
supervision I think is permitted. Information can be got from SV9ANJ

Ascension Isl. ZD8. Ian M0BCG, writes; Beacon update at ZD8 soon.
Johnny ZD8KW went back to ZD8 at the 9 th., took a cuscraft ringo ran-
ger vertical with him donated by Nevada/G3SED to replace on the ZD8
beacon, i assembled it at my house and tuned it up for 50.035 Mhz,
taped and marked it and put back in box, he will change the aerial and
put a new pole up sometime in next couple of weeks.
Ascension Isl. ZD8. I am please to let you know i have replace the
beacon antenna at ZD8 with the help of lenny ZD8LJD so it is running
again with a new vertical that was donated by Nevada Communications in
the UK it will be interesting to if there is any improvement i am also
looking email address of zs6wb or Hal Please drop me and Email if you
happen to read this look forward to some good reports from you all

Meteorscatter, the Lyrids. Northern hemisphere. When we worked meteor-
scatter on 144 MHz we always considerd April Lyrids as the start of the
meteor season of the summer. Although this shower only produces about
12 good trails in average per hour it may be used for QSOs. It is
mainly a daylight shower and best for M/S QSOs between 09 - 23 local
time. The calculated peak is on the 23rd of April. (QSP de SM7AED News)
Jamaica, 6Y. 6Y1A The rare prefix of 6Y1A will be activated by N6BT,
KE7X, N6XG and K2KW in the CQ WPX CW Contest May 26-27, 2001. Outside
the contest, look for operations using homecall/6Y5 from May 20 to May
29. KW amplifiers will be used on 6 through 40 meters, and vertical
arrays will be provided by Force 12. Special emphasis will be given on
the WARC bands and 6 meters outside the contest. QSL 6Y1A & K2KW/6Y5

England, G. Just booked a holiday on the island of Mull, IO66, from
2-9 June 2001. Sorry I wont be able to stay for the UKSMG contest :-(
but will be QRV for some of the RSGB event on 2/3 June. Can try SSB MS
for stations who are too close for Es. I'll be running 100 watts to a
5 element tonna. Hope its a new sqaure for some of you - QSLs will be

Bermuda Isl, VP9. I am considering VP9 in the 2nd Week of July (I have
the use of a house on Knapton hill) do many people still need VP9, or

brouht a IC 767 with 6m capability to Djerba Island but has no licence

Falklands, VP8. Next month Roger Eeles, G0SWC, will be returning to
East Falkland where he will be QRV with QRP as VP8DBR. Starting around
May 15 he will be mainly active on 6 through 40 meters SSB with some CW
(QRS) and PSK31. There is a possibility of 80 and 160 meter operation.

Wallis Isl., FW. Since March 23th, Guy, FW5ZL is QRV 6 meters in

Archipelago), from April 27th to May 1st. Other references are: DIFM

Contest. Tom SP5XMU, writes; The Polski Zwizek Kratkofalowcaw (PZK)
has the pleasure to invite all Radio Amateurs over IARU Region I to
take part in the VHF/UHF/SHF SUDETY CONTEST that are held permanently
each year on the first weekend of August. This subregional contest is
organized by VHF Club of PZK to stimulate activity in Summer on VHF-
SHF bands. Rules of the XIV Sudety Contest - 2001 1. Eligible entrants
all licensed radio amateurs in Region I. 2. Contest Sections: i)
Single operator (SO) - station operated by single operator with no
assistance during the contest, using privately owned equipment and
antennas and operating from any location. ii) All other entrants in-
cluding club stations (MO) No more than one transmitter may be in use
at any one time. A participating station must operate from the same
location throughout the event. 3. Date of contest: The contest will
start on the first Saturday of August: 04 - 05 August 2001 14.00 -
14.00 UTC 4. Type of emission and contacts: A1A, R3E, A3E, F3E, G2B
(CW, SSB, AM, FM, PSK31). Each station can be worked only once, whet-
her it is fixed, portable or mobile. Any duplicate contacts should be
logged without claim for points and clearly marked as duplicates.
Contacts made via active repeaters do not count for points. Any tele-
phony contact made with stations transmitting in the CW sub-band shall
not count for points. Centre of PSK31 activity: 50,610 - 144,610 -
432,610 MHz 5. Bands: 50 - 144 - 432 - 1296 - 2300 - 3400 - 5650 - 10
000 MHz 6. Contest exchanges: RS or RST + contest number commencing
with 001 for the first contact on each band, increasing by one for each
successive contact on this band + complete Locator of the sending sta-
tion (examples: 59 003 JO70ST or 579 003 JO70ST). 7. Scoring: point
will be scored on the basis of one point per kilometer, i.e. the cal-
culated distance in kms will be truncated to an value and 1 km will be
added. The factor for conversion from degree to kilometers is 111.2.
Bonus: for each new Locator Square (LOC) (4 characters) on the band:
1000 points. The total scores is a sum of points for kms + bonus for
number of LOC. (Example: 22'345km + 8 x 1000 = 30'345 points). (VHF
Managers Handbook IIIa & IIIk.a.1) 8. Awards: i) Certificates will be
issued to the five top scores in the two sections on each band. ii) For
each section an overall winner will be declared on basis of the sum of
the points scored on each of the bands. 9. Logsheet: Standard IARU
logsheet shall be used separately on each band. A copy of the logs must
be send to: Contest Manager PZK, Tomasz Wiza, SP7BCA, ul. Orkana 5/14,
PL 96-100 Skierniewice, Poland. postmarked not later 28 August 2001.
The submission of the logs implies that the entrant accepts the IARU
Region I contest rules as in the VHF Managers` Handbook and in this
rules. 10. Disqualification: Violation of the rules will be judged on
basis of IARU Region I contest rules. The decisions of the Contest

Guam & Micronesia, KH2 & V6. V63YV; KH2/JA1WPX Tada, JA1WPX, will be
spending his Golden Week Holidays on Yap Island from April 30 to May 3

KH2/JA1WPX on Guam. Tada is a well known Japanese DXer who enjoys

Maldives, 8Q. 8Q7JY Shigeo, JA1JQY, plans to spend his Golden Week Ho-
lidays in the Maldives with his family between April 28 and May 3. He
is a member of the Yamato club, JA1ZEK, and has operated as XV5JY,T22JY,
3D2SH etc. Shigeo will use 8Q7JY on 6 through 40 meters with a IC-726MK2
For antennas he will use a multi-band dipole for HF and 2 element loop
