General information.
Antarctica, EM. Paul, EM1HO will be active (on all bands, WACR and 6
metres included) from Vernadtsky Base on Galindez Island, Antarctica
starting in February. QSL via I2PJA either direct or through the bureau
[TNX I2PJA] (QSP de 425 #508).
Syria, YK. The following are the announced frequencies for the 3-11
February YK9A operation from Syria: 50095 CW, 50130 SSB. QSL via K9LA
Carl Luetzelschwab, 1227 Pion Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46845, USA. (QSP de

Niger, 5U. A group of three Italians plan to be active from Niger be-
tween February 27 and March 12. The group will be QRV on 6 through 160
meters on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Operators include I2YSB, I2UIY and
IK2DIA. Callsigns will be issued after their arrival on site. They will
have one on SSB and the other on all other modes. Three rigs will be
used with on amplifier. For antennas they will have a beam on 6 through
30 meters and verticals on 80 and 160 meters. A web site has been set-
up, which will have online logs at http://digilander.iol.it/i2ysb.
QSLs for both callsigns will be OK via bureau or direct to I2YSB,

Austral Islands, FO0. FO0SIX Trip is proposed by FO3BM from March 3 to

India, VU. VU2SDN "Sahar" President of amateur radio society of India
(ARSI) tells that The Wireless advisor to the government of India,
Dept. of Telecom has decided to extend the temporary permit that per-
mits the Indian Radio Amateurs to operate on the 6 M band. No decision
for a permanent allotment of 50 MHz band has been taken as yet. We will

Comoros, D6. Five Star DXers go to D68 - Bulletin No.5 (Shortned by
E.d. OZ6OM). This is the fifth bulletin, with news of our forthcoming
D68C DXpedition to the Comoros (active from about 8th to 28th February)
and will be the last bulletin before our departure. Many of the team
members met at G3NUG's QTH last Sunday (28th January) and we are all
very much looking forward to the DXpedition. Our container of equipment
is already waiting for us in D68, and the first group of operators fly
out next Sunday (4th February), via Mauritius, arriving D68 on 6 th
February. We expect to take about two days setting up equipment and
antennas, so that when we start we will have all bands up and running.
Operating Patterns and Power Outages. Our D68C operators will all be
briefed to identify regularly, and to make their tuning intentions
clear. Initially all operations will be split, and we will be as care-
ful as we can not to cause interference to the other expeditions which
will be active at the same time. We will not work by numbers and will
not be joining lists or nets. As the operation progresses and the pile-
ups diminish it may be possible to work co-channel to accommodate those
whose transceivers do not allow split operation. Our major focus will
be on those areas of the world where D68 is in greatest demand, and we
will take care to check the tough paths, such as that to VK/ZL. We will
try to give SSB and CW roughly equal treatment. For 6m enthusiasts, we
will attempt to have the 6m beacon running on 50.090 as soon as possi-
ble after our arrival (probably sometime on 7th February). One matter
which we need to cover at this stage. There is a possibility of short
power outages at the hotel. These will necessitate bringing the local
generators on line, which could take up to two or three minutes. Should
this happen, when power is restored we will come back on the same fre-
quencies, both transmit and receive, and start by trying to complete
the QSO with the station we were working when the power failed. Pilot
Stations. The objective of the D68C pilot team is to be a permanent and
established communication link both to and from the DX community. The
DXpedition team needs to hear from the DX community what is going well,
what can be improved, what the DXers propose, etc. so that the expedi-
tion can adjust its operation according to this feedback. We have at-
tempted to strike a balance between the number of pilots and the need
to provide an information channel to as many amateurs as possible. The

QSL Policy. All incoming cards will be checked carefully to ensure
that the QSO appears in the DXpedition log. We will only QSL those
QSOs that are listed on your application. Direct requests will be
dealt with first, with e-mail and bureau requests second.QSL requests
received direct by the managers will result in a direct response,
subject to certain provisions. Two IRCs or one US dollar are needed
to pay for airmail outside Europe for up to two cards. Additional
cards pro-rata. Note that US dollars are much better value than IRCs!
IRCs must be properly stamped. Additional dollars or IRCs are very
welcome and will be used to help meet the significant costs of the
DXpedition. QSL requests received via the bureau will receive a return

Guadeloupe, FG. Jon, N0JK, reports that he has received the QSL cards
from the printer for his FG/N0JK operation, and they should be going
out this past weekend. His FG/N0JK activity took place at the end of
November where he was active on 6 m and was in the CQWW CW Contest.

Ascension Isl., ZD8. I've completed all the cards for ZD8SIX today and
they will go into the post on Monday. Well, all except those cards
from Italy without envelopes and the dozen or so cards from Japan that
are not in my log. With the latter, it was a massive pileup so it
guess it was easy to get confused. And, thanks to Dave G4RGK who sent
me 10 pounds towards expenses. Well done mate! Now if everyone had

Tonga, A35BQ. Angelo, I6BQI will be active as A35BQ from Tonga, grid

Nordic VHF Meeting 2001. This year the meeting will be at Gottskaer
(JO57ai), on the Swedish west coast, about 35 km south of Gothenburg

St. Helena & Ascension Isl., ZD7/ZD8. Glyn, GW0ANA, Chairman of the
Barry Amateur Radio Society, informs OPDX that on March the 19th, 4
members of Barry Amateur Radio Society (B.A.R.S.), Rich/GW4BVJ (CW op),
Sheri their logistics manager, Doug/G0WMW (CW & SSB op), Glyn/GW0ANA
(Data & SSB op), will be flying down to Ascension Island. They intend
to operate on all bands and various modes (i.e. 160-6 meters - Modes:
CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK31, SSTV, MFSK, Heilshriber). They will be on Ascen-
sion for 8 days then it's off to St. Helena were they will again repeat
the operation as on ZD8 using as many modes as possible. They will be
on St. Helena for 15 days before returning to Ascension and then home.
The callsigns are at this moment being finalized, so Glyn will tell us
once they have confirmation. QSL manager for both islands is GW0ANA.

St. Peter & St. Paul rocks. PY0S. Update. Bill, W9VA, reports, "Plans
are moving ahead on schedule for the DXpedtion to PY0S in early Febru-
ary, 2001. All government permissions to operate from the Rocks are in
hand, and the callsign PW0S has been issued. The team will leave Re-
cife, Brazil, on February 2nd, arriving on the Rocks on February 7th,
intending to operate for five or six days. This is a long open ocean
trip and dates may vary. The operating team is led by Jim Faria, PY7XC
who previously operated from the Rocks in 1978 as PW0PP. Other opera-
tors are Fred/PY7ZZ and Ciro/PY7ZY. All have previously operated from
Fernando de Noronha and various Brazilian IOTA islands. Operation will
be on 160 through 6 meters, CW and SSB, possibly RTTY. Steve, KU9C,
has joined the team as QSL Manager. Financial support from clubs and

Iceland, TF. TF/LA6HL update. Johannes, LA6HL has made some changes in
his trip (info Jan. 11th). Here in short the new route Egistadir (IP25)
on July 12th - 14th. Hofn (IP24) on the 14th. Skaftafjell (IP14) 15th -
17th. Reykjavik (HP94) 17th - 24th. Isafjordur (HP96) 25th - 27th. Aku-
reyri (IP05) 27th - 28th. Rafnarhofn (IP26) 29th. Vopnafjordur (IP25)
30th - 31st. Egistadir (IP25) 31st until departing to Farooe Isl on the
2nd of August. Note that this is a vacation trip together with his wife
and he will try to be QRV mostly during the nights and mornings but in
Reykjavik he might be QRV most of the days. Johannes will be active on
50 MHz with a 5 el yagi and about 120 W. He plans to try 2M EME on July
20th till 23rd from Reykjavik and maybe also some M/S with high power
and 2x15el CueDee. Frequency 144.139 MHz, CW speed on M/S 1000 lpm.

Guinea, 3C. 3C5I beacon is operational again. Watch for it on 50.096,
with 30 watts with beam heading chasing expected dx. Probably to Europe
during day, LP to VK or JA overnight. Any predictions welcome! If I am
not in the shack, it will be continuous. If I am around the shack, it
will call cq with a listening period. I will be out of 3c from Jan 31

Nuie Isl., ZK2. Hi everyone,just wanted to tell all the "Sixers" that
a friend I will be on Nuie Island from 18 March until 6 April. We have
no special antenna for 6m, but the extended G5RV does a good job there!
So, maybe there will be some contacts (I hope so). Please check 50.118
from time to time. We will be there with our IC 706 in times when
shortwave is too crowded or there is no traffic. In 1999 we had a QSO
to TI5KD, and we heard several beacons from KH6, VK and ZL. The call
will be ZK2GEO again, and I'm the QSL manager. Bureau cards are welcome
and will be processed in order of receiving. So, CU in the pile-up then

Australia, VK. VK3SIX beacon. Both VK3SIX beacons off until further
notice. The 10M beacon suffered failure. The 6M beacon has been removed
for a frequency change to 50.293 maybe later in the year. One noticeable
aspect of pulling off the 6M beacon has been the cessation of opposite
direction calling on by stations within E skip range 110, thus leaving
the way clear to take advantage of what remains of the F2 DX. Steve

Morocco, CN. CN8LI beacon. The CN8LI beacon on 50.026 is QRT until I
find a yagi ant for the 2m beacon on 144.465. I can hear the ZD8VHF
