General information.
Editorial. OZ50MHz DX Bulletin into the 2 th. Century. To renew the
look and content for the year 2001 issues, would I like to hear some
reader poposals. What is needed ? new sections, old sections deleted,
new design or .. ? Please let me have Your input within Tursday the 28
th. of December. Speaking of December and New year, my best whishes
for A Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and DX full Year 2001 to all

Honduras, HR. Ken AC4TO, writes; Hi, I am forwarding an e-mail I got
back from Rene, HR1RMG. I e-mailed him in Spanish about how to best QSL
with him for a QSO we had this Summer. He replied and also said that he
will be QRV from Swan Island (I don't know the grid) on 6 meters in

Fr. Guiana, FY. Bruce K2RTH, writes; This morning myself and several
other Florida stations wrked FY5LS on 50.110 CW F2. This appears to be
some new activity from FY but I guess he has missed most of the F2
openings to Eu, appears to be good cw op and according to QRZ a resi-
dent. So while there are still openings the guys in Eu should look for

Canada, VE. Look for VE2DX to operate (on +/- 14260, 21260, 28450 and
possibly 7070 and 50125 kHz) from Jesus Island between 23 December and
3 January. Most operations will be between 10 UT and 15 UT, but the
station might operate also around 20 UT to 3 UT. QSL via VE2STN (Ric-

Montserrat, VP2M. Returned from VP2M trip. Missed opening into N.Ame-
rica 10 Dec (sorry Mike VE9AA beyond my control !) Worked S. America
(LU,CE,ZP,CX,PY,PY0 etc,every night2230 / 0130 utc.but ZD8 bcn only
hrd once unlike last DEC. New ones from VP2M for me on 6 were V31PC,
YV1LC,XE1/SM0OUG (XE1KK BCN also rcvd ...is it still operational with
volcanic eruption?) Excellent HC8GR BCN regularly 1300utc but only one
HC8 QSO. Good opening into VE/USA 11 Dec 1409 /1527 ut with 119 qso's
into 57 different known loc sqrs.in EM, EN, FN Didn't bother to pick
up those not given. Frustratingly close with EU opening 1300 ut Mon 18
Dec. Heard SM7BAE call twice @ R4/S1/T9 on 50.1064. Replied but nothing
hrd by return from my 90 watts & 5el yagi ! CO2KK wishes Happy Xmas to
All UKSMG & CE3SAD, Philipe, is still trying for EU from his Andean
mountain shielded QTH nr Santiago. He was into VP2M every evening on 6M
TEP. Please also note VP2M & V44 6M BCNS down BUT Winston V44KAA in
Basse Terre very active daily on 6 with 80W to 5 el. No resident VP2M
active on 6 ...yet. I'm working on it ! Only about 6 resident amateurs
there and "too busy for regular ham radio". Re early Dec notes re Bobby
VP2MO...as VP2MDD I'm asked regularly re whereabouts...believed in UK
at moment but not active.Definitely not in VP2M. Our Radio licensing
Authority not offering reciprocal licensing facility to VP2M licence
holders..despite exceptional circumstances and having passed theory and
cw exams. I am proposing following this up as I know several VP2M 's
relocated here in UK post volcano action. Thanks to All Stations in
VE/W/EI/GI/OZ/GM etc for 28.885 assistance..much appreciated. 73 &

Lichtenstein, HB0. Re: Trip to HB0. Hi friends. After two days of hea-
ring nothing I left HB0 today at 1600z. I might be there again between
Xmas and new year if conds are halfway appropriate. Sorry for all you
guys in W and VE. Hope to have more succes next time. Nevertheless, a
mery Xmas to you all and a happy new year, good Dx on the magic band.

Bandreport regarding Monday the 18 th. from Bruce K2RTH. Monday maybe
one of the best openings I have ever had to Europe in my 18 months of
DXing on 6, that is. Worked just JO/KO grids(except for OK1VBN in JN79,
almost JO), it was open from 1400-1530z, although some stations were
copied on what sounded like meteor bursts a little earlier. One thing
I learned is that not to pay too much attention to any particular video
frequency, particularly those at 48 Mhz, they are just to far away from
six meters. Plenty of times I have S9 video at 48 Mhz and then maybe
the band will open an hour later. It is much better to listen for 49740
/750/760 video, it is much closer to 50 mhz. On Monday heard weak 48
Mhz but S9 49740/750 Mhz, and then the big key was as they got loud I
started hearing inband video from the 49 Mhz carriers and six opened
within 2 minutes. A much more dependable indicator. I have heard this
before but never when the video at 48 Mhz was vy weak and the evidence
so conclusive. Too bad you guys in Europe dont have 49 Mhz video to
listen for, guess you do but all it does is cause QRM. Anyway I worked
OZ4LP, OZ3K, OZ7DX, SM1FMT, SM7AED, SM7CMV, SM7GIB, and hrd OZ4VV among
others. Also worked 5 SP, 2 OK, and 3 DL, was very pleased to be first
US for at least SM1FMT and SP5CCC, maybe others. SP7EXY was my first SP
for #101, a great year here, 85 countries so far this year and it is
not over. This is surely a great location and to think the first ten
years I lived here all the equipment sat mostly in storage (1979-1990)
and would only get on the air once in a while. I also was spending most
of my time on 144 Mhz and up, except for the past year and a half. Like
to wish you and the family the best for the Holidays and in the New

Gambia, C5. Mike, DL2OE, and Hans, DL7CM, will be QRV possibly as C56/
homecalls in RTTY/CW/SSB on 160-6m between Feb 20 and Mar 4. QSL via

UK Sov. base areas on Cyprus, ZC4. Steve, ZC4BS (also G4KIV, ZD8SB,
N5ZFR) reports that the ZC4 club station should be up and running as
ZC4ESB (Eastern Sovereign Base). The station will be operated by Steve
ZC4BS, Des/ZC4DW and Graham/ZC4GK. They will be active for the next 3
years, and hopefully a little longer on all bands 160-6 meters and on
all modes. Des and Steve are also keen contesters and will be partici-

Bouvet Isl., 3Y. 3Y0C is Chuck Brady, N4BQW, who became active the 16
th. from Bouvet. He will be on the island with a group of scientists for
three months. Chuck is currently active on 15 and 20 metres only, but in
due course he expects to operate (mainly SSB with some CW) on 6-160 met-

South Cook, ZK1. Dan, N6PEQ, is QRV from South Cook signing ZK1PEQ
between Dec 20 and Jan 6. He plans to work from Aitutaki running a
FT847, dipole and vertical on 10-80m (perhaps 6m). Check his website

Belize, V3. Klaus, DJ4SO will hit the airwaves from Hopkins Village
operating as V31SN between Jan 17 and Feb 12. He will work in CW/
RTTY/PSK31/some SSB on all bands but his emphasis will be put on
WARC and 50 MHz. 160m/80m operation depends on the height of the

Malaysia, 9M8, Peter, PB4CC will be active (10, 15 and 20 metres plus
6 metres "but not on a regular basis") as 9M8CC from Sarawak between

Pacific trip. Angelo, I6BQI will be touring the Pacific for six weeks
starting the first week in February 2001. He plans to operate (on 160
-6 metres CW) from Tonga as A35BQ, from Niue as ZK2BQI and, if he can
get the licences, from YJ, 5W, C2 and T3 as well. More information

Agalega, 3B. Update. The 3B6RF DXpedition to Agalega is confirmed to
take place from 5 to 18 May. The team now consits of HB9BQI, HB9BQW,
HB9BXE, HB9CRV, HB9HFN, HB9JAI, HB9JBI, 3B8CF, 9A4TU, CT1AGF, DL3KUD,
DL6UAA, F6HMJ, G3KHZ and NK6F. As Joe, HB9AJW has been forced to cancel
the trip, the team is now looking for a good CW operator with contest

Mexico, XE. I will be active as XE1/G3SVD (EK09) from Dec 20th till
Jan 3rd with 100W to a 6el Cushcraft. Whenever possible I will leave
my keyer in interruptible beacon mode on 50.102 and beaming 100 degs
over the eastern US seaboard to Eu. In any case I will try to always
listen for Eu. I will also monitor 28.885. The Christmas period has
been good in previous years but to the western US and to VK/ZL, lets

Brazil, PY. PY2AA/B in GG66WJ at 50.059 MHz: We have accomplished the
final reconstruction of the station. Now it uses two M2 halos stacked
(top one at 8mH) and the output power exceeds 40W. Please feed us back

St Kitts, V4. I will be qrv from St Kitts as V47CA from April 9-24 2001
Does anyone know if a TS690 has ever been converted to 100 watt output?

Caribbean trip. (J6/J7). Tom, LA4LN, will be operating as J6/LA4LN (or
a separate J6 callsign) from St. Lucia, December 14-28th, and as J7/
LA4LN (or separate J7 callsign) from Dominica, December 28th through
January 4th (2001). He states that his licence applications were filed
along time ago, but licences will have to be picked upon his arrivals
Tom will be on the radio when time permits, using an Icom IC-706MkII
transceiver and wire antennas. He will be equipped to operate all HF
bands from 160-10 meters, plus 6 meters. Activity will mainly be on
CW with some RTTY possibly. His suggested CW frequencies are: 3505,
7005, 10105, 14025, 18073, 21025, 24895, 28025 and 50105 kHz (all +/-
QRM). 160 meters will be tried if the noise conditions make it pos-
sible. There will be split frequency operation when needed. Please
