Short Term Propagation Forecast for Next Carrington Rotation, By Arnie
Coro CO2KK. Expect solar flux to peak above 200 again during the next
rotation, BUT DON'T expect so many openings as during the period Nov 18
to Dec 3... Want to know why ? Because the altitude above the Earth of
the daytime F2 layer over the Northern Hemisphere will be HIGHER during
the period Dec 15 to Dec 30... This will make the free electron con-
centration per cubic millimeter LOWER to start with, and so, we will
require a much higher UV radiation to impact the ionosphere in order
to produce the same Maximum Useable Frequencies that we saw between
Nov 18 and December 3 (actually it extended to December 4 and 5) One
interesting thing that may happen is the coincidence of the winter
solstice sporadic E season with F2 openings which may lead to some very
interesting contacts via LINKED MODES OF 50 mHz PROPAGATION 73 and DX
to all Keep monitoring the TV video, watching the MUF rise from 30 to
50 MHz and PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN ONLY... PLEASE CALL CQ OFTEN IF WE ALL
LISTEN ..... NO QSO's will ever take place. Arnie Coro CO2KK.

   Nauru C2: I hope to commence 50MHz monitoring/transmissions around 2030
   10th Dec 2000 as C21JH (RI-39). IC-736 (100w) to 5 element at 45 feet.
28.885MHz will be utilised where required. QSLing will be conducted from
mid Jan 2001. More information ? Then please visit:

Comoros, D6. Don G3XTT writes; This is the third bulletin, with news
of our forthcoming D68C DXpedition to the Comoros (active from about
8th to 28th February). We are delighted to say that everything remains
on course for what will be one of the biggest DXpeditions of all time
New Team Members. Since the last bulletin, the following have joined
the DXpedition team: Jens DL7AKC, John N7CQQ, and Victor UT8LL. Jens
is a CW expert, with significant DX and contest experience. John was
leader of the recent, highly successful FO0AAA Clipperton Island ex-
pedition and brings a wealth of expertise. The team is now, barring
possible last-minute changes, complete and consists of: George, 5B4AGC
   Marios 5B4WN, Jeff 9H1EL, Jens DL7AKC, Tony G0OPB, Neville G3NUG, Don
   G3OZF, Mike G3SED, Steve G3VMW, John G3WGV, Don G3XTT, Steve G4JVG,
   Nigel G4KIU, Justin G4TSH, Tim G4VXE, Bob GU4YOX, Kazu JA1RJU, Taizo

of all members, along with photographs, can be found on the D68C Web
page (see below). Logistics. A container was shipped on the "Julius
   Oldendorff" ex-Felixstowe (UK) on 30th November. It's a 20 foot con-
tainer and is about three-quarters full - there is around 20 cu. m.
of kit with a total weight of over 3 tonnes (3,000 kgs). In the con-
   tainer are 10 transceivers, 9 linears, 4000 m. of coax, 1600 m. of
control cable, 6000 metres of radial wire, 9 Yagi antennas, 11 masts,
   Four-squares for 40m and 80m, Verticals for 30m and Top Band, 64+
heavy guy stakes, 11 lap-top computers 1 generator etc etc. Sponsorship
We are pleased to have several new sponsors who all help to make the
expedition possible. Full details of all sponsorship appears on the
D68C Web site. Further sponsorship is sought, especially from DX groups
and foundations, to help with the high cost of shipping some 3 tonnes
of equipment to D68, along with a number of other logistical matters.
Sponsorship is being co-ordinated by the following: US: Wes W3WL
   (blamboley@aol.com) Japan: Taizo JA3AER (arakawa@sakuranet.co.jp)
Rest of the World: Steve G4JVG (g4jvg@cwcom.net) Our treasurer John
G3WGV (g3wgv@aol.com) will be pleased to accept donations. The D68C
Web Page continues to be updated with the latest news. To remind
everyone, the URL is www.dxbands.com/comoros There have already been
some 4000 "hits" on the site. Don Field G3XTT, NK1G g3xtt@lineone.net

New Zealand, ZL. Tim, ZL3VTV/ZL1 writes; Hi, Just a note to let you
know, the old Auckland 6m beacon, ZL1UHF, on 51.020 MHz has never been
put back on air, and it never will on that frequency. We have re-cry-
stalled the transmitter, and it is now ZL1VHF, and it operates on
50.043 MHz, from Whitford, about 30km South East of Auckland city,
220m ASL. It is running about 10 Watts into a half wave vertical an-
tenna. The beacon went on air Saturday, December 2, 2000, about 19:00
local time. I will try to get the appropriate grid square locator for
you at some time soon. 73, de Tim, ZL3VTV/ZL1, RF73KD.

New Zealand, ZL. Kim OZ5IQ QSP an other letter from Tim; We now have
our beacon on the air, from its new site, and thus far, it seems to be
operating well. ZL1VHF is on air from the Whitford site, approx 30 km
SW from Auckland city, about 220m ASL, and has good veiws from the
south, through the west round to the east. (270). The frequency it is
on is slightly low at present, but the will be put right this weekend
if everything goes well, it is currently operating on 50.0417 MHz, and
will be retuned to operate on 50.043 MHz, which is the frequency allo-
cated for it. It is sending out the identification ZL1VHF 6M WHITFORD,
and uses an A0 type of emission. Please spread the work among the DX
community, so that everyone can know where to look out for us. Any
reports would be very welcome, either by email, to tmoore@clear.net.nz
or by phone, to +64 21 273 2429. All the best DX on 6m, 73, de Tim,
   ZL3VTV/ZL1. RF73KD.
