Ascension, ZD8. Chris G3WOS, writes; The DXpedition to Ascension Island
is ready for take off! Callsign: ZD8SIX. Dates: I am flying out via an
RAF flight from Brize Norton, UK on Monday 30th October @ 23.59pm which
lands 07:30 on Tuesday 31st October. I would hope to be QRV by midday
latest on Tuesday. I will be leaving back to the UK on Wednesday 08
November @ 22.50pm so this should give me a full seven days of opera-
tion. Location: II22 As there are no hotels on the island (I hope there
are some bars!), I am staying at the 'accommodation block' in George-
town. This should give me a clear play to the west, north and south.
The Island has many volcanoes and any location nearer the centre of the
island, such as Two Boats, has major restrictions with respect of
seeing an horizon. I will be blocked to the east and to the south-east,
but I hope that this is not too much of an inconvenience. Help: I plea-
sed to report that I am obtaining a lot of help from the only two ac-
tive hams on the island: Lenny, ZD8LJD who lives in Two Boats and
Johnny, ZD8KW who has just arrived on the island from St Helena. Lenny
is loaning me a mast. Thanks guys! Equipment: 5 element M2 6M5X antenna
Yaesu FT-847, TE Systems 400 watt amplifier, Beacon: I will run a bea-
   con on 50.123: While not in the shack:"de ZD8SIX ZD8SIX ZD8SIX in II22"
<5 sec break> rpt". When in the shack: "CQ CQ CQ de ZD8SIX ZD8SIX <5
sec break> rpt" Operating frequencies: I will operate simplex on 50.123
but if I get big pile-up I will operate split listening on 50.133 (All
subject to local QRN). Telephone number: Please notify me if you hear
the beacon and are desperate to work me. BUT PLEASE ONLY CALL BETWEEN
   07:00 and 22:00 ASCENSION TIME +247 6891 - room 14. QSL: Chris Gare,
G3WOS 'Old White Lodge', 183 Sycamore Road, Farnborough, Hampshire,
GU14 6RF UK. Please remember to include $1 or a STAMPED IRC and an
ENVELOPE! If you don't, you might be waiting for a card for a long
   time. cheers, Chris ZD8SIX

   Antarctica, KC4. A QSP from W7GJ Lance. Bert KC4/WA1O, writes; KC4/WA1O
and 6m operation I've been getting a lot of encouragement from hams in
the states and worldwide. I am looking forward to putting Antarctic
grid squares "on the map" for folks. I will spend several days, early
in November at the U.S. station at McMurdo, then travel to Byrd Surface
Camp for several days, finally I will be on traverse for the remainder
of November, all of December, and returning through Byrd Surface Camp
to McMurdo (and eventually home to "W1" land by 15 January. I expect
to be able to get on the air most evenings between approximately 6 and
10 P.M. Christchurch, NZ time. (0500z to 0900z). Within those constra-
ints, I will do everything possible to "activate" as many Antarctic
grid squares and give the 6m community a crack at this rare corner of
the planet. When 6m propagation does not cooperate, I will most likely
be on 20 cw looking for DX and occasionally 20 ssb look for stateside
phone patches. Please QSL via my "manager" KA1CRP or direct (with SASE)
to my CBA. If you are interested in viewing our scientific progress and

Grenada, J3/W1AIM. I will be on Carriacou (part of Grenada) from 10 Nov
to 22Nov. Will have 100w and a 3el yagi. This is also a vacation, so I
will be off diving reefs and sampling the local rum now and then, but
will be on six as much as possible. Listening/calling on .110 and .125
and will QSY up whenever the band opens. The beam will stay with J37LD
who is six capable, but not terribly active. Call will be J3/W1AIM.
Lets hope the propagation gods cooperate on this trip. See you all in
