That's an excellent page -- I've picked up quite a few handy programs
there. At the moment I use G3PLX's software for PSK31, IZ8BLY's
software for Hellschreiber, W95SSTV for slowscan, linux for packet,
and MixW32 for RTTY.

The only software I saw on that page for PACTOR is PSATOR, which
needs a particular type of sound card (since it's for DOS).

Perhaps PACTOR for linux is project for me in the next few months.
I prefer linux to Windows.

I was just reading their web pages -- the PTC-IIe (e for economy) is
$649 US. The PTC-II is $950. US dollars. That's some pretty serious
money -- about twice what I paid for my rig actually.

It looks like SCS don't want to tell anyone much about PACTOR
without paying money, so that might make software difficult.

I call them 'QRM' !
I've never tried them, but, since I started with PSK,
I've non need fro them and,
more, I hate them for their bad sound and wide band
(compared with PSK31).
This morning I read (in PSK): " pse don't use this qrg
for PSK31, this is a box-qrg, qsy, pse". This is new
for me. Now is possible to rent or buy a frequency? How
much does it cost?
Please, STOP PACTOR, AMTOR,x-TOR ...if you can!
Start PSK31: lot of DX (Canada, Pakistan, Japan in
QRP!), lot of fun, narrow band consumption.

The October 99 issue of QST has part one of a relatively simple dedicated
modem
for RTTY, Amtor & Pactor which can be used with Terman93, which was written
by
Sailer, and is freeware. While not using the soundcard, about the only other
requirement would be a free serial port on your computer and a receiver. I
note that you're not in the US and probably have a difficult time getting QST,
but it would be a worthwhile experiment if you're truly interested in said
modes. Please note that it only does PACTOR, not PACTOR II.

You may not have a need for modes other than PSK31 but others do.
PSK31 is great for rag chews (I use it a lot) but lousy if you want
to transfer binary or graphics files or error-free BBS traffic. Thats
where Pactor and Clover excel. Every mode has its advantages and
disadvantages. We can't force everyone to a single mode.
